Grace UCC is planning to launch a new weeknight Contemporary worship service that engages an
unserved population in Taneytown, fosters discipleship, and provides a worship
experience that is relevant to modern congregants while staying rooted in Scripture. The
Worship Leader will engage the congregants in a vibrant, Christ-centered worship
service through the use of contemporary music, audio-visual presentation, and a
welcoming stage presence. This role combines musical talent with spiritual leadership
and requires enthusiasm, creativity and faith to build something new in Taneytown.
Key Responsibilities
1. Worship Leadership
- Lead weekly contemporary worship services that are engaging, Spirit-led, and aligned with Grace UCC’s mission and theology.
- Select, arrange, and introduce songs that reflect the theme of the weekly service and the message provided by the Pastor.
- Engage with the congregants and encourage active participation in worship.
2. Team Development
- Recruit, audition, and mentor musicians, vocalists, and audio/visual volunteers.
- Leadership of rehearsals, while coaching and encouraging the worship team.
- Foster a culture of unity, humility, and servant leadership.
3. Service Planning
- Collaborate with the Pastor to plan worship sets that complement the sermon theme and church calendar.
- Coordinate with tech and media teams to ensure seamless integration of music, lighting, video, and other elements.
4. Spiritual Care
- Pray regularly for the worship team and members of the congregation
- Model a lifestyle of worship both on and off the platform.
Qualifications
Spiritual
- A growing relationship with Jesus Christ and a lifestyle consistent with biblical leadership standards.
- Alignment with Grace UCC’s mission and vision.
- A heart for worship that prioritizes God’s glory over personal recognition.
Skills & Experience
- Proficiency in at least one lead instrument (preferably guitar) and strong vocal ability.
- Experience leading contemporary worship in a church or ministry context.
- Knowledge of current worship trends, arrangements, and technologies.
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred
- Familiarity with developing visual worship materials (e.g., Powerpoint, ProPresenter).
- Ability to arrange music and mentor musicians at varying skill levels.
- Creative vision for integrating other arts into worship (imagery, spoken word, dance, etc.).
Work Schedule
- Estimated 4-6 hours per week, which includes the weekly service and any music rehearsals.
- Additional events such as holidays, outreach services, and special gatherings.
- Occasional staff meetings, retreats, and training events.
Compensation & Benefits
- $40/hr.-$75/hr. based upon background and experience
- Required to pass State and UCC background checks
