Head Pastor at Sunnybrook Church

Sunnybrook Church in Bristol, TN is currently seeking for the leadership and shepherding of a Pastor for our congregation. First and foremost, we are not the perfect church. This is not a glamourous position and shouldn’t be. If that’s your intention, this isn’t a good fit for you. The hours are long, the work is hard, there’s not a lot of praise to be had for your hard work, our congregation has problems, and the pay is nowhere near what would be reasonably acceptable for your time and effort. Sunnybrook is a Bible based, verse by verse driven, family-oriented church that seeks to serve our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and further His Kingdom. We have seen Christ work in many lives through the ministries at Sunnybrook and are eagerly awaiting His plan for the future of his ministry.

Our church is located in the Sunnybrook Community of Bristol just off Volunteer Parkway behind Walmart. Sunnybrook is part of the Covenant Brethren Church which was formed in October of 2020. Sunnybrook Church has been around since 1958 when it was originally formed as a Church of the Brethren denomination named First Church of the Brethren.

Our congregation is mostly family and friends, small in number, but great in the faith and power of Jesus Christ. We’re not your average congregation, be careful when challenging us to a Bible trivia contest. We generally have approximately ~15-20 attendees weekly at our Sunday services, and most if not all also attend our Wednesday evening services where we have an in-depth study of the Bible. Our age ranges are from infants to Grandparents and everything in between. Our services on Sunday are contemporary in nature, we have had a praise band in the past and also use Multitracks to help assist with our worship services. No matter the format, we stay true to honoring Christ in all that we do and give Him all the praise and glory. Our worship center is older, but is equipped to serve with a sanctuary, fellowship hall, several offices and youth and children’s rooms. Our sanctuary is large enough to comfortably seat approx. +\-100 people and is also equipped with a sound booth and projector etc. Our services primarily take place on Sunday and Wednesdays.

Compensation for the Pastor’s position will be provided and will need to be negotiated and discussed with church leadership. We are not concerned with denominational background and this can be discussed more in detail in person. Our church typically uses the NASB Bible translation, but we also have used NLT, NIV, NKJV, ESV and others. Our church is centered on Christ alone in everything we do.

The Pastor reports to the Deacon Ministry. The Pastor will work with the Leadership Team and Deacons to oversee the operation and ministry of the church.

Administration

• To oversee the administration and management of all areas of the congregation's ministry in consultation with Deacons, Leadership Team, and staff.
• To support and assist the staff/ministry leaders who have primary responsibility in the ministries of education, youth, children, and outreach.
• To support, supervise, manage and evaluate, in conjunction with the Deacons, the staff of the congregation. Participate in the screening and hiring of non-ministry staff and calling of ministry staff.
• To build a sense of team-work among church staff and hold necessary staff meetings to coordinate the ministries of the church and facilitate communication.
• To work with the Deacons to see that the facilities of the church are functional and in good repair.

Worship

• To regularly preach and teach the Word of God.
• To be present at all church services and events required
• To help plan for the overall worship service experience with the worship leader.
• To officiate at special services such as weddings, funerals, nursing home services, etc.

Pastoral Responsibilities

• To provide pastoral care along with the Deacons through visitation, counseling, and prayer.
• To make appropriate referrals when necessary and quickly respond to crisis situations which arise in the congregation.
• To assist staff and ministry leaders in teaching children, youth, and adults in the Christian education program of the congregation.
• To mentor youth minister and other volunteer teachers as required.

Outreach

• To equip the membership/citizenship for personal evangelism and outreach.
• To perform visitor follow-up.
• To perform outreach in the community.
• To promote and assist with outdoor ministries/camping ministry

Working Conditions

The position of Pastor requires great flexibility in hours available for work, including evenings and weekends. The pastor is NOT expected to hold office hours, but it should be at their discretion for accessibility to members of the congregation and for regular communication with members of the church staff

Compensation:

Compensation will be provided based on budgetary limits and is paid as a Housing Allowance. Vacation is also allowed and can be negotiated. This is NOT considered a full time position and a bi-vocational ministry may be best.

Requirements:

Biblical requirements for the position of Pastor can be found in scriptures from Titus 1, 1 Timothy 1, and 1 Peter 5

Applicants will need to undergo a criminal background check and interviews with our church leadership. Applicants may be asked for multiple interviews and to speak for our congregation during the interview process. Licensing by the Covenant Brethren Church is required for Pastorship and will be required prior to installation. This can be discussed further in person for more details.
