Opportunity
Sixth Avenue Baptist Church is a multigenerational church of 2,000+ members located in the historic Titusville community of Birmingham, AL. With a rich history and strong commitment to Christian discipleship and service, the Church is seeking its next full time Pastor of Children and Youth (C&Y) to execute the vision of children and youth ministries and ensure the spiritual growth of children and teens, ages 18 and younger. The ideal candidate is an innovative leader, experienced in urban youth development, youth evangelism, and multi-program management.
Overview
The Pastor of Children and Youth will develop and implement a comprehensive approach to children and youth ministry; cultivate healthy relationships with children and their families; build young disciples for Christ and create opportunities for children and youth to foster a genuine relationship with Christ by:
- Promoting learning and application of scripture and a lifestyle of prayer
- Providing opportunities for ministry leadership, community outreach, and missions
Duties and Responsibilities
· Oversee and lead established C&Y ministries (i.e. Children’s Church, Nursery, Collision, Bible Studies, Special Events, etc.)
· Assess ministry needs and develop novel programs
· Recruit and train new children and youth ministry volunteers
· Develop a strategy to grow attendance and attract families through children and youth ministries
· Create and effectively manage budget to align with ministry’s vision and plans
· Engage youth with relevant messages and life application of the Word
· Share a calendar of events for the church website and social media platforms
· Communicate consistently with parents and youth
· Advocate for youth and educate the congregation about the needs of youth in the local church and community
· Mentor youth and develop their leadership skills
· Participate in continuing education events and training opportunities
· Collaborate with staff members and maintain teamwork mentality
· Support youth outside of church when possible
· Ensure that the Child Protection Policy is observed in all youth ministry settings
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
1. Should be a self-starter who is able to prioritize and manage multiple programs
2. Should be conscious of the need for confidentiality, exercising discernment and wise judgment
3. Should exhibit professionalism demonstrated by a well-groomed appearance and conscientious work ethic
4. Should maintain personal spiritual development through Bible reading, prayer, and Christian community
Experience and Education Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; MDiv preferred
· Experience working with children and youth in an urban setting
· Demonstrated ability to grow a youth program
· Commitment to children and youth evangelism
