Senior Pastor Job Description

Qualifications & Experience

·        Must qualify according to the requirements of 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9.

·        Must have a Master of Divinity (M. Div.) seminary degree.

·        Must have at least five years of full-time ministry experience. Showing proficiency in leadership, teaching, preaching, managing and oversight.

 

Functions & Responsibilities

The Senior Pastor’s responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

Preaching/Teaching

·        To teach, preach and instruct in the Word of God in worship services and other times as needed.

·        To hold to essential biblical doctrines, teaching them with accuracy and clarity.

·        Unashamed proclaimer of the Gospel—speaking truth with love while standing firm on God’s word. Not avoiding biblical topics over fear of reprisal or unpopularity.

·        Shepherd of the church—defending the truth of Scripture, recognizing false doctrine and worldly influence, addressing political and current events from a biblical perspective.

 

Leadership

·        Works alongside the Elders and Church Board to ensure that the church is functioning according to GEBC’s mission, purpose, and core values. Assisting in modification of those items as needed and in alignment with God’s word.

·        Provides strategic vision for the church in the realization and practical implementation of GEBC’s mission, purpose, and core values.

·        Functions as an Elder on the Elder Board.

·        Assists ensuring GEBC meets pastoral responsibilities: ministering to the needs of the body through visits, prayer, counseling, and other similar services.

·        Functions as the most visible leader and spokesman during interactions with the community and government agencies, or other times when GEBC representation is required.

·        Works with the Elders to practice necessary church discipline according to scriptural guidelines.

 

Operational

·        Oversight of pastoral staff and office coordinator.

·        Oversight of day-to-day GEBC operations.

·        Approvals for discretionary fund budget spending in coordination with the Elders.

·        Thorough understanding of, and agreement with, GEBC constitution, bylaws, and policies.
