Position: Pastor of Student Ministries 


Summary of Position

The Pastor of Student Ministries (YP) shall be responsible for the pastoral oversight, management, and ministry of the church’s students (grades 6th through 12th). Currently, the YP’s time shall be divided into approximately 70% dedicated directly to student ministry and 30% to other responsibilities described below. This position reports to the Senior Pastor. 


Qualifications


  • The Pastor of Student Ministries shall be an ordained Southern Baptist minister with a Master’s Degree from an accredited college, university, or seminary, or have significant and current progress being made towards this degree.  
  • He shall have a testimony of God’s salvation, a vital and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, and sense God’s calling on his life to serve in the Gospel ministry. 
  • He shall have a public, ethical, and moral character above reproach. 
  • He shall have an urgent burden to reach this generation of youth and help them to become devoted followers.
  • He shall desire to serve as part of the larger staff ministry team to accomplish the overall vision and purposes of Hudson First.
  • He shall possess a strong grasp of and proclivity for technology and its applications for student ministries and overall church ministry.


General Statements


  • This position is a full-time, exempt, vocational minister of the church and is considered part of the ministerial staff, thereby enjoying the rights, privileges, and responsibilities normally granted to the ministers of the church staff. He is subject to this job description, to the Constitution and By-Laws of First Baptist Church of Hudson, Inc. 
  • This position will have general oversight of the entire student ministry of the church, currently grades 6th through 12th). His primary responsibilities will be planning, developing, coordinating, directing, and evaluating the student ministries and programs of the church for the purpose of teaching Biblical principles and promoting spiritual development.

Youth Pastor Primary Responsibilities


  • Seek to lead youth to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, to a lifestyle of discipleship, and to active youth involvement in the total life of the church.
  • Plan, organize, direct, and promote a year-round youth ministry program to serve the various age groups and the various interests of all youth within the church and to reach youth in the community. 
  • Responsible for all youth programs such as Bible study, youth retreats, youth trips, recreation programs, development programs, etc. 
  • Responsible for recruitment, development, training, and oversight of Youth Leadership Team to ensure sufficient qualified volunteers to facilitate various aspects of the youth ministry.
  • Responsible for fostering relationships with youth parents through regular communication, meetings, workshops, activities, and other means.
  • Be available to youth and/or families for regular counseling and guidance and in times of need.  
  • Ensure the youth ministry’s presence on and provide oversight for Youth Media Ministries such as social media, websites, and other contemporary modes of communication.
  • Have a regular presence on the local middle and high school campuses during school hours and at extra-curricular activities, within reason, to provide support and discipleship for members and outreach to non-members.
  • Prepare an annual budget to submit for approval and administer the budget within the guidelines of the overall church budget. 
  • Ensure that all youth volunteers are approved to serve in the youth ministry according to regulations of the church’s Safety and Security protocol, including passing a background check.
  • Attend required meetings, serve as a member of the Church Council, and assist when needed in pastoral ministries such as preaching, visitation, crisis needs, etc. as assigned by the Senior Pastor. 


Other Responsibilities (approximately 12 hours/week)


Life Center Worship Service Coordination (4 hours on Sun AM)

  • Upload media content for worship services;
  • Serve as “problem solver” for multiple serving teams, giving aid, answering questions, and assisting congregants and visitors;
  • Maintain team schedules for Tech Team, Camera man rotation, Safety and Security, and other serving teams;
  • Fill in as needed for Guest Services or Tech Team;
  • Maintain handouts at Guest Services;
  • Check AED Defibrillators & Wall-mounted First-Aid kits each week before Sunday morning to ensure proper stock and function;
  • Ensure that offerings are collected and delivered to locked box after the worship service.
  • Video Editing (3 hours)
  • Create and edit sermon clips for social media, app, website, etc.
  • Assist in creation of sermon bumpers, testimonials, ads, countdowns, etc. 



Morning Fuel Assistance (1 hour)

  • Serve as recording tech for weekly episodes
  • Describe and upload to drive/soundcloud for scheduling by Media and Engagement Manager


Audio/Visual Assistance – as needed

  • Provide A/V services or coordination for meetings, special events, and other services.



Professional and Personal Growth Activities

Staying abreast of current technology and popular, trending issues in the youth culture are critical for youth ministry. Regular reading of literature, attendance at seminars, study courses, and workshops are expected.
