Job Description

Job Title: Youth Minister

Denomination: Baptist

Church Size: 200 members / 100 regular Sunday Attendance

City Population: 6,600

County Population: 30,000

Background / Job Description:

First Baptist Church of Sealy (FBCS) is a church family that values scripturally rooted teaching, heartfelt worship, and loving our brothers and sisters in Christ while establishing an effective witness to the community. Established in 1876, FBCS continues to stand firm in proclaiming the Word of God to the Austin County area. God is working to arrange our leadership team in a way that allows our growth to continue in alignment with the FBCS mission statement: Loving God, Loving each other, and Loving the world. It is our desire to “Be The Church” by being a visible partner to the community of Sealy.

We are seeking an experienced individual with a clear calling to our church who will lead and organize our Youth ministries with a clear vision of youth discipleship and Christian growth, and support our Children’s ministries. These ministry programs integrate fellowship, biblical teaching, discipleship, worship, and evangelism into all activities.

This position will report directly to the Senior Pastor. The Applicant should demonstrate a personal and growing relationship with God, a teachable spirit, and a healthy family life. They must be a Spirit-led follower of Jesus Christ, demonstrate an ever-deepening personal relationship with Him through spiritual disciplines, exhibit a passion for youth and children ministries, a willingness to try new things, and strive to be involved in the community.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create and lead execution of a long-term, church aligned vision for First Baptist Church of Sealy’s Youth ministry
  • Support integration of youth ministry into all phases of church life to create a culture that is intentionally intergenerational, striving to complement other church ministries
  • Promote an environment where youth feel connected to each other as a church family
  • Attend community events as a representative of the church and to show support for youth activities outside the church such as theatre, sports, arts, and competitions
  • Provide biblical counseling and spiritual direction to youth
  • Maintain regular contact with students and parents, keeping them informed of ongoing activities
  • Communicate ministry strategies and plans in a way that encourages partnership and involvement with parents, staff, church membership and community leaders
  • Support and partner with our children’s ministry leaders and volunteers – including regular visits with the children, occasional teaching, events and activity attendance, Vacation Bible School leadership, and summer camp chaperone duties (I added the children’s responsibilities after Terry recommended that we add tangible responsibilities to help us evaluate their performance.)
  • Foster cross-collaboration between ministries and area churches
  • Responsible for youth budget

Character:

  • Growing and devout personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Live out the requirements as described in 1 Tim 3 and Titus 1
  • Exemplify what it means to live out a grace motivated and empowered life
  • Personable and reliable team player who displays flexibility and humility
  • Committed to being a Godly Parent and Spouse

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Able to clearly communicate personal testimony of conversion experience and show evidence of a personal relationship with Christ (John 15:5)
  • Experience in communicating God’s Word to gatherings of students
  • Skilled in organization, administration, and interpersonal relationships
  • Self-motivated and able to work without close supervision
  • Demonstrate creativity as a regular part of youth leadership, using new technology and new formats as you try innovative ways of teaching our youth (Terry suggested some like this but wasn’t sure where to put it.)
  • Willing to live in the Sealy ISD area to foster relationships and connections within the community
  • Experience in Youth Ministry (Preferred)
  • Seminary Graduate (Preferred)

Potential Additional Paid Opportunities (If desired and led to do so):

·        Plan and lead worship services in consultation with the Senior Pastor - with prayer, conceptual forethought, theological accuracy, and musical appropriateness

·        Oversee media preparation, presentation, sound, and lighting

(Terry recommends removing this entirely if our primary desire is to hire a separate person to grow the worship ministry. He feels that if we leave this in, we need to be more specific so we don’t get partial support that may conflict with another hired worship leader.)

Application Requirements

  • Current Resume
  • 3 References (2 Professional, 1 Personal)
  • Testimony (Statement of Faith)
  • Link to any online or recorded lessons that may be used for evaluation

Application Procedure:

About First Baptist Church Sealy

Community focused Baptist Church seeking Mr. Right... I mean Mr. Light... or Ms. Light. Seeking a Christ-following man or woman to lead our youth to Christ! :-)

We desire to love God, love each other, and to love the world by "Being the Church" to the world around us. Sealy Texas is a medium/small town of about 6000, with a local community of about 30,000 (in the county). We cheer on our middle and high school students at their sporting events, theater and band performances, and participate in local parades and things like the upcoming "Boo Bash" and Christmas parade. We try to have fun events that involve our seniors and kids and young adults (which range from 20 to 60 years of age - maybe we should call them young at heart adults?). We try not to take ourselves too seriously and want to love those around us - even if they don't yet know Christ.

Our church is relatively small (100-200) but has a big heart. Our recent youth attendance on Wednesday nights can range from 20 to 40 and was averaging around 40-50 before we went through a lot of transition over the past few years. We're looking for someone who will help us bring them back in, love on them like Christ, and who will be a part of this community for years to come.
