Job Description

Position Objective: To provide pastoral/director leadership to the worship ministries of CMA Church, Morgantown, West Virginia (https://www.cmachurch.net/)


Position Description: The Worship Pastor/Director must be a leader with artistic gifts and a passion for enhancing the worship culture and experience at CMA Church. Foremost, this individual should be committed to ensuring that each worship service is led in such a way that the congregation has the chance to praise and connect with God through music and the Word. The desire should be to foster a “singing congregation”. The Worship Pastor/Director will be the “producer” of each worship service and special programs. Although the Lead Pastor is the “director” in terms of setting the theme and overall direction, the Worship Pastor/Director will oversee and coordinate all the details that a service encompasses. The Lead Pastor and Worship Pastor/Director will meet weekly to achieve these goals. The Worship Pastor/Director should have a vision for leading people to God through communicating a worship direction that inspires those around him to join in. This position requires the individual to serve as a worship leader as well as a shepherd to the people who serve in this ministry. It would be expected that the Worship Pastor/Director would train, develop, and nurture those who serve in the worship ministry. The Worship Pastor/Director may, at times, be asked to assist, along with the pastoral team, in other church activities, such as teaching, preaching, etc. This is a full-time position.


Salary and benefits:

1.   The annual salary for this position will be commensurate with education and experience. 

2.   Initial vacation is 2 weeks plus up to eight personal leave days not involving weekend ministries.

3.   A retirement plan is available.

4.   The church will reimburse miscellaneous ministry expenses incurred during the normal course of ministry.


Qualifications:

1.   A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a growing personal relationship with Him.

2.   Biblical knowledge, to speak and sing with understanding and accuracy.

3.   Commitment to moral purity.

4.   Agreement and commitment to the CMA mission, vision, and elements of faith.

5.   A strong commitment to seek ordination if not ordained.

6.   Demonstrated experience as a Worship Pastor/Director.

7.   Love for God and the Church Body.


Abilities:

1.   Encourage spiritual development of those in the congregation and the worship ministry.

2.   Provide an enthusiastic presence for leading a weekly worship service.

3.   Convey a professional and positive attitude toward the congregation, church visitors, members of the community, etc.

4.   Skilled in choral, vocal, and instrumental direction. Creativity is encouraged.

5.   Skilled in interpersonal relationships, organization, administration, and budgeting.

6.   Ability to use technology in worship and in the use of sound, lighting, computers, video projection, etc.

7.   Ability to incorporate other art forms, into the worship experience as needed.

8.   Interest in reaching out and inviting college students to join the worship ministry.

9.   A self-starter and team player with a positive attitude.


Responsibilities:

1.   Maintain an authentic and growing walk with Jesus Christ.

2.   Spend time developing relationships with lost people and helping the church to do the same.

3.   Build teams, including high school and college students, to participate in various worship areas.

4.   Plan the corporate worship services in consultation with the Lead Pastor ensuring that all the musical and technical aspects of the service advance the theme for the day overseeing song selection, media preparation and presentation, sound and lighting enhancements, and coordination of all instrumentalists, vocalists, and other participants.

5.   Serve as lead worshiper in all Sunday morning worship services, either by their presence, or by training and overseeing others who may occasionally lead services.

6.   Oversee all weekly activities and rehearsals necessary to facilitate worship in services.

7.   As needed, provide musical direction/support for individual church events, such as funerals.

8.   Provide shepherding care for the worship teams, choirs, instrumentalists and worship staff.

9.   Oversee the worship department budget, organization, and volunteers.

10. Set annual goals for the worship ministry that are in line with the church vision and then evaluate how those goals were attained or modified during the year.

11. Support the mission and vision of the CMA Church of Morgantown and the national denomination that may involve attending district and national meetings, and retreats.

The congregation consists of college students, professionals, young families, and older families from many ethnic backgrounds. The church has a history of being a “sending church”, sending many individuals and families into full-time pulpit ministry and to the mission field. The church has birthed a Chinese Church and a Korean Church and routinely holds joint services with both congregations. The church hosts a college and career ministry to college students and young professionals. The church worship ministry has a relationship with the WVU School of Music, that allows college music majors to participate in the church’s worship ministry, such as choir, praise band, or orchestra. This relationship provides opportunity for evangelism, discipleship, and music/worship leadership development with college students.
