FIRST METHODIST CHURCH OF HENDERSON JOB DESCRIPTION

Youth Director (Revised - 2023)

• General Responsibility: Leading and loving students into the presence of Christ by coordinating, and directing the youth ministry of the church.

• Administrative/Leadership Responsibilities

• Coordinate, supervise and train adult volunteers

• Develop and guide a Youth Leadership Team.

• Coordinate youth fundraising activities

• Develop and oversee budget for youth ministry.

• Submit monthly page for church newsletter.

• Connect with students and parents with all necessary communication tools.

• Participate in weekly staff meetings and staff retreats.

• Report to Church Council Meetings to report on the youth ministry.

• Expected Office Hours

• Monday: 8:00am – 12:00pm; 1:00pm – 4:00pm Tuesday: 8:00am – 12:00pm; 1:00pm – 4:00pm Wednesday: Flexible to plan evening Programming Thursday: 8:00am – 12:00pm; 1:00pm – 4:00pm Friday: OFF

• Saturday: OFF

• Sunday: Expected participation in both services and Sunday School

• NOTE: Flex weekday office hours when meeting with youth or parents in the evenings. Communicate your occasional flex times with office staff.

• (For example, if you know you are going to a youth’s sports game in the evening, flex your hours by leaving early or coming in late.)

• Weekly Programming Responsibilities

• Coordinate and plan Wednesday Night youth activities, devotionals, worship, meetings, programs, and dinner.

• Plan and lead the Youth Sunday School Class

• Plan and coordinate Confirmation Class (with Senior Pastor)

• Worship Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate youth-led worship services at FMC.

• Serve as advisor to Youth Praise Team

• Seasonal Program Responsibilities – Provide opportunities for service and fun.

• Community Service Projects

• Coordinate with the Henderson Youth Minister Alliance for community events.

• (This might include: Disciple Now, See You At The Pole, Summer Events, etc.)

• Pastoral Responsibilities

• Counsel youth about personal/spiritual concerns

• Counsel adult counselors, teachers, and volunteers about youth needs

• Attend school events and activities (football, basketball, baseball, volleyball) on

• regular basis (Supplement office hours for these events.)

• Meet with youth individually to establish personal relationships

• Missions Responsibilities

• Schedule, plan, and coordinate a yearly mission trip.

• Plan and coordinate other community outreach throughout the year.

• Facilities Responsibilities

• Coordinate and oversee upkeep of Youth Center.

• Coordinate and oversee furnishings and décor, and upkeep of equipment and

• furniture in Youth Center.

We are the Independent Methodist church in the county seat of Rusk. We average 167 on Sundays and 40 youth on Wednesdays.
