The Alpine Chapel Lead Pastor should be a God-called Christian pastor, able to lead our church into the future with prayer, conviction, passion, vision, and humility. He should have experience leading other churches of our size or larger. He should be an engaging, biblically faithful teacher who can relate to people of different ethnic, socio-economic, and generational backgrounds. He must have the ability to coach others in the body to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up. (Ephesians 4:12) He shall exemplify the characteristics of a godly, Christian life and possess the qualities of a spiritual leader as stated in 1 Timothy 3:1-13 and Titus 1:5-9.


He shall be a pastor approved by a unanimous vote of the Trustees and Elders of The Alpine Chapel and then approved by at least a 75% vote of the current membership. The Trustees and Elders of The Alpine Chapel shall review the performance of the Lead Pastor annually and he shall be accountable to the Trustees and Elders.


Spiritual Qualifications

General Spiritual Qualifications: Titus 1:6-9

  • Characterized as blameless: A life that is characterized by moral integrity. Firmly committed to Christian, biblical morality. This integrity is recognized by believers and is recognized by nonbelievers also. (1 Tim. 3:7 “Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil.”)
  • Characterized by sexual purity.
  • Characterized by domestic authority: They are loved and respected by the people who know them best.
  • Characterized by personal stability: Not domineering, not violent (physically or verbally), not given to excesses (drunkenness), not possessed by materialism.
  • Characterized by spiritual disciplines: Hospitable (loves people), loves what is good, upright, holy and disciplined.
  • Characterized by doctrinal stability: “He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught.”
  • Characterized by biblical capability: Able to “encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.”


Practical Qualifications

  • Pastor/teacher with a minimum of 5 years and preferred 10+ years of significant leadership experience, including staff oversight and demonstrated growth.
  • Master of Divinity or above from an accredited institution. (preferred)
  • An Active Member in good standing with the Chapel.
  • Aligns with the Chapel's Statement of Faith (found within the bylaws).
  • Model a growing, vibrant, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, an active prayer life and a sensitivity to the Holy Spirit’s leading.
  • Shepherd’s heart which cultivates relationships to make disciples.
  • A Gospel-centered expositor of Scripture in the content of his teaching.
  • Supports a biblical view of marriage.
  • Ability to live in or relocate to Telluride, Colorado with housing provided by the church.


Responsibilities

  • Serve as the prayer-driven spiritual leader of the church.
  • Prepare appropriately and deliver compelling, Spirit-filled, exegetical sermons that are relevant, uncompromising, and true to Scripture. Serve as the primary preacher. Willing to live stream and archive sermons on church-owned channels.
  • Minister to the spiritual needs of attendees and guard the membership against dissension.
  • Be available by digital means to minister to members that are part-time and may not be in town.
  • Lead the development of small groups for the church to grow spiritually.
  • Along with the associate pastors and church leadership, implement strategies necessary to align ministries to the Mission and Vision of The Alpine Chapel.
  • Work with church leadership to develop and lead outreach programs that promote the Gospel and serve the community.
  • Serve as the overseer for the church staff.
  • Meet regularly with staff and other church leaders to disciple and train them in ministry.
  • Interview and appoint all pastoral and staff positions, both paid and unpaid, with final approval by the church’s Trustees.
  • Be responsible for annual reviews and evaluations of pastoral and staff positions as well as ministry leaders.
  • Work with staff to develop a mission-driven annual ministry budget and be able to work within that budget.
  • Maintain personal accountability to an accountability partner as well as to the Elders.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of Trustees and Elders.
  • Meet with the church’s operating boards (i.e. Trustees, Elders, Finance, Administrative) on a regular basis to report on the spiritual, organizational, and overall health of the church.
  • When needed, counsel members and families on how to live biblically faithful lives.
  • Provide pastoral care to families or individuals during times of grief, crisis, illness, or change.
  • Officiate the Lord’s Supper/Communion/Eucharist on a regular basis.
  • Conduct weddings, funerals, and baptisms according to the doctrinal commitments of our church as needed.
  • Develop relationships with other churches and organizations in our community consistent with our church’s mission and values.

We are centered around Jesus Christ as God’s revelation to us in and throughout the Bible as the narrative in its entirety testifies to God’s redemptive plan through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Through the prayer-driven teaching of His Word we learn about His character, His ways, and His love for us. As we grow in our understanding of Him through the Spirit’s illumination in His Word, His Spirit also empowers us for gospel ministry to one another and the world.
