Senior Pastor

Kilgore Bible Church

Job Description

Preach three expositional sermons per month (elders and other gifted men will take up the remainder of the Sundays).

Teach in one other setting weekly: Wednesday night, Sunday during discipleship hour, etc. Some visitation (those in the hospital and visitors who visited the church). Again we have congregants who enjoy visiting and so this task is not for the pastor only.

Provide ministry direction to part-time staff: Administrative assistant, Nursery coordinator, Children’s ministry coordinator, bookkeeper, and part-time worship staff. We have had a staff meeting every Monday at 10:00 am.

As an elder on the elder/deacon board, conduct church business monthly with elders/deacons. The chairman of the elder board heads the monthly meeting.

Meet twice a month with elders and elders’ wives for dinner, fellowship, and discipleship.

About Kilgore Bible Church

Our vision statement says, “We exist to make the gospel visible.” We have attempted to grow in understanding that the gospel impacts all of life. We have been working on teaching and leading and doing relationship work to get to this kind of understanding.

Most of our members have been churched long before coming to KBC and come from a diverse range of backgrounds. This makes us a melting pot of viewpoints, preferences, and even some theologies. Geographically our attenders come from a wide four county area extending the reach of our discipling, but also making our life-sharing community somewhat challenging. Because of geographical distance many attenders interact primarily on Sundays and Wednesdays, the days of our major meetings. To encourage fellowship and community connections we organized our Discipleship Hour groups to have content and sharing components. We often host church-wide meals and other fellowship times on Sundays to allow those coming from a distance to be able to participate.

Most attendees desire Bible teaching as their primary reason for coming to corporate gatherings. Our ages are a diverse mix from birth to older seniors. The majority of adults are employed and in stable family situations. There are several multigenerational families. We have a healthy mixture of ages with many young families, college students, seniors. There are less singles than other categories.

Our church government is a plurality of elder leadership: the pastor is one of equal elders. All elders participate in leading the church supporting the pastor in his teaching and directing ministry. Elders are supported by deacons that handle much of the administrative and physical facility work.

The music at KBC, consists of a combination of classic and modern hymns as well as more contemporary worship songs. Regardless of the era from which the music originates, we are seeking to elevate theologically sound music that supports the preaching and teaching of scripture, and encourages thoughtful confession from the participants.

We faithfully study the Bible through weekly expositional sermons, discussion groups, and other classes. Bible knowledge and application to life’s activities is valued highly. Much of our fellowship is organic and not tied to an organized ministry. People meet up frequently to share life together, study the Bible, help with kids or moving, have a meal, play pickle ball, etc. We love children and focus significant energy to welcoming them, teaching them the Bible, helping them see believers outside their families living for and loving the Lord. Many of our small groups and other activities have an intergenerational flavor - college students and septuagenarians learning together. Our elders and deacons are “all in” and have come to expect to be involved in the ministry of KBC, even preaching on some Sunday mornings.

Our missions program is stellar with an experienced committee working to support missionaries and missions efforts with more than money. We frequently welcome our supported missionaries to visit and speak and also work to stay abreast of their current ministries, needs, struggles, and support levels. Our giving to missions usually comprises approximately 20% of our annual spending.
