Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Lead the Children’s Ministry of Cottonwood Church, advancing the spiritual formation of birth through grade school students into fully devoted followers of Christ. Lead the team, both paid and volunteer, who serve this generation.

This is an exempt, full-time position reporting to the Executive Pastor.

JOB GOALS:

· Develop creative programming for children’s ministry, helping them to become fully devoted followers of Christ, through Cottonwood’s discipleship model of Gather – Grow – Go. “Gather” means they are in small groups sharing their faith. “Grow” means they are learning God’s Word. And “Go” means they are reaching their friends for Christ.

· Grow the Children’s Ministry Team (staff and volunteers) in number and in capacity of leadership and service to develop all facets of the children’s ministry. Volunteers in children’s ministry should reflect the diverse membership of Cottonwood.

· Make the children of Cottonwood a genuine, integral, and visible part of Cottonwood Church life, evidenced in diverse ways, including engaging the adult family members.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

· Keeps a close and growing relationship with God through His Word and in prayer

· Carries a passion to see children come to faith in Christ and become devoted followers of Jesus

· Connects genuinely with children and their friends and family, to build safe, spiritual, stretching relationships

· Gathers and leads people to serve and build Cottonwood’s Children’s Ministry

· Values collaboration and builds trust through servant leadership

· Is gifted as a creative and strategic leader

· Displays a teachable spirit

· Is experienced in strong organizational and communication skills

· Has great evidence of experience and learning in children’s ministry, with a bachelor’s degree desired

· Has 5+ years of serving in and leading children’s ministry

STAFF ATTRIBUTES:

· Has assurance of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ

· Has a growing relationship with the Lord, evidenced by a love for Jesus and others

· Understands, agrees with, and supports Cottonwood’s tenets of faith found on page 5 of our handbook

· Demonstrates Cottonwood’s values found on page 6 of our handbook

· Senses a calling from the Lord for this role and as such, will make a minimum 3-5 years commitment

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

This position is required to oversee numerous employees and will be required to perform the following supervisory responsibilities: interviewing, orienting and training staff and volunteers; planning, assigning, and directing work; coaching and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining staff and volunteers; addressing complaints and resolving problems. This position also requires the ability to work in alignment with other church departments and leaders, coordinating programs and ministries as part of the greater vision of Cottonwood.
