Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Associate Pastor and Congregational Care Director, the Associate Pastor and Congregational Care Assistant Director provides support for the care needs of St. Andrew. This position ministers to the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the Congregation through:

  • Visiting persons in hospital and rehab facilities
  • Making telephone calls
  • Listening, encouraging
  • Praying
  • Offering support for less mobile members (in homes, assisted living, and retirement homes)
  • Supporting grieving families

This position deals with a diverse group of people, staff and lay. Must be able to communicate with this broad range of users. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize and organize diversified workload. Works independently and within a team to respond to the needs of the congregation and staff.


Essential Functions

  • Prayer requests and hospital visits

o  Review weekly prayer requests and reach out as needed

  • Congregational Care Ministers (lay program)

o  Review and develop 3-5 year strategy

o  Recruit lay persons for the program

o  Provide trainings and meetings including agenda preparation, selecting outside speakers and securing needed supplies

o  Work with Congregational Care Administrator to communicate information for a Congregational Care Minister to contact a care receiver as needed

  • POD (Pastor on Duty)

o  Review and provide updated strategy

o  Provide information to Pastor on Call for calls/visits

o  Manage POD schedule

o  Conduct quarterly meetings

o  Maintain calendar of hospitalizations/surgeries

  • Hospital Visitation

o  Make regular hospital visits

o  Participate in POD “On Call” rotation

o  Serve as backup for the Answering Service when other pastors are on call.

  • Support Groups

o  Explore new and existing programs

  • Liturgist for Saturday and Sunday worship

o  Serve on occasion and lead other liturgical services as needed.

 

Required Education and Experience

  • Post graduate religious degree and credentialing
  • 2 or more years of pastoral experience

  • Preferred 2 years or more of experience in working with people in need/crisis
  • Strong organization skills
  • Strong personal faith
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a proven track record of developing quality relationships

  • Outstanding organizational and time-management skills
  •  Strong speaking and presentation skills
  •  Good active listening and willingness to help.
  •  Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  •  Flexible

 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a ministry exempt full-time position at 36.5 hours per week. Work hours are Monday – Thursday, 8:30-5:00 and Sunday, 8:00 -12:30. Occasional Saturday and Sunday work is required around large events and worship.
