Job Description

Director/Associate Pastor of Youth & Young Adult Ministries will provide leadership for and oversight of current and future Youth and Young Adult programs, working with councils and pastors to evaluate their effectiveness and make modifications as necessary.

  • Middle School (Grades 6 to 8): Wednesday Night Program, Middle School Events, Middle School Retreat.
  • Confirmation (Grade 8): Sunday Program, Special Events, Weekend of Decision, Confirmation Sunday.
  • Senior High (Grades 9 to 12): Wednesday Night Youth Fellowship, Sunday Bible Study, Youth Events (i.e., lock-ins, retreats, etc.).
  • Go & Serve - yearly mission trip in June; including youth (post-Confirmation to 12 grade), young adults (after one year gap), and adult volunteers.
  • Young Adult Ministry (up to age 22) – fellowship events, care packages, mission trips.
  • Provide spiritual leadership to middle and high school students and their families, equipping students to become followers of Christ and encourage them to take leadership roles in the church.
  • Develop relationships with youth, young adults, and families that foster a sense of belonging, inclusion, collaboration, acceptance and fun.
  • Recruit, encourage and lead  a strong network of volunteers.
  • Be a resource for parents and guardians in need of support and guidance as they parent their student(s), serving as a spiritual advisor, confidant, and resource for youth and their families. 
  • Design and/or  implement curriculum and programs that promote spiritual growth, personal development and and engage our youth: middle school, confirmation, high school, and young adult
  • Encourage youth and young adult attendance at weekly worship services and create opportunities for participation in worship.
  • Maintain an awareness of relevant youth and young adult culture, in order to understand and address the spiritual and social needs of youth and their families.
  • Serve as staff liaison for the Youth & Young Adult Ministries Council and the Go and Serve Committee and attend weekly in person staff meetings and monthly council and committee meetings. 
  • Maintain weekly in-person office hours to facilitate building relationships with staff members, youth and their families.
  • Engage in a program of study and enrichment through reading, continuing education, and participation in professional groups.


Additional Responsibilities if Applicant is Ordained:

  • Provide pastoral leadership in worship and preach at the direction of the Co-Pastors.
  • Perform sacraments (Baptism & Communion) at the direction of the Co-Pastors.
  • Provide pastoral care to youth and their families.


Qualifications:

  • A vital and growing relationship with Jesus Christ. A commitment to seeing lives changed by Jesus. 
  • Able to communicate effectively in various settings and to teach biblically sound and culturally relevant lessons.
  • Personal faith consistent with Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) theology and polity. 
  • Must be able to effectively minister to all youth, including affirming LGBTQ.
  • Able to relate comfortably and warmly with youth and their families, congregants, staff, and volunteers.
  • A commitment to excellence combining a strong personal work ethic and a balanced lifestyle.
  • Organize and manage various programs with flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred in a ministry-related field.


Compensation:  This is a full-time exempt salaried position and is benefit eligible. Compensation will be based  on the candidate's experience and qualifications. Benefits offered by Knox include: vacation, medical, dental, parental leave, family leave, tuition for dependent children in our Children’s Day Out program.
