JOB OPENING

Waypoint Community Church is eager to welcome its next Lead Pastor. We are seeking a dedicated Lead Pastor whose passion for the Lord will provide strong pastoral leadership to fulfill the Mission and Vision of our church. The Lead Pastor will work closely with church staff and elders, all committed to becoming fully devoted followers of Jesus.


Waypoint Community Church is a small church in Spokane Valley, Washington, serving a multi-generational congregation. Spokane Valley is a vibrant and growing community in eastern Washington, nestled between the city of Spokane and the Idaho state line. Known for its stunning natural beauty and high quality of life, Spokane Valley offers residents and visitors a unique blend of urban amenities and outdoor recreation.


The Lead Pastor position is full-time, offering a negotiable starting salary of $65,000, along with comprehensive medical, retirement, and vacation benefits. The Lead Pastor is not expected to personally complete all the tasks listed below but will be responsible for overseeing and delegating them to ensure their completion. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES


Preaching of God’s Word and Sunday Worship : Provides the primary (>50%) preaching/teaching voice for the church, giving the necessary time in prayer and preparation to be an effective instrument of God in the pulpit. May assign, as needed, preaching to other staff pastors, guest speakers, and international workers. Provides overall leadership for Sunday worship services and special services of the church.

Pastoral Leadership with the church staff : Leads the church staff (pastoral and administrative) in planning, administering, and evaluating their ministry leadership and activities to fulfill the specific purposes of their ministries in alignment with the overall Mission and Vision of the church. Leads a weekly staff meeting for prayer, planning, equipping and progress reports. Ensures that the ministry focus, job description, and performance of the church staff is supported with healthy supervision and review, including an annual performance review for each staff member. Serves as the key representative of the church staff to the Board of Elders and vice-versa.

Pastoral Leadership with the Board of Elders : Serves as a member of the Board of Elders, working with the Board of Elders to prayerfully develop, review and refine the Mission and Vision for the church. Works with the Board chair to develop agendas for Board meetings. Provides spiritual leadership to the Board to equip them as shepherds of the flock (I Peter 5:1-3) and to govern with diligence. (Romans 12:8). The Lead Pastor is responsible to provide sound Biblical advice and training to the Board of Elders pertaining to issues on spirituality, congregational care, discipleship, doctrine, constitution, church discipline, governance, etc. Serves on Board committees. Represents the church at GGF functions and community. Participates with the Grace Gospel Fellowship leadership as requested and time permits.

Leadership and Supervision of Ministry Programs : The Lead Pastor is responsible for the efficient and harmonious operation of all church ministry programs ensuring that both pastoral and lay leaders are effectively equipped for the work of ministry. The Lead Pastor shall ensure a ministry focus on the Missions program of the church and other missions as approved by the Board of Elders. The Lead Pastor manages administrative and organizational functions ensuring that ministry programs are effective in achieving the church’s Mission and Vision.

Pastoral and Congregational Care : The Lead Pastor shall, in partnership with the Elders and pastoral team, ensure that the congregation is shepherded and cared for including visitation, counselling, hospitality, discipleship, weddings and funerals, and crisis care. The Lead Pastor shall ensure that the staff, Elders, and gifted lay leaders are equipped to provide effective congregational care.

Administration : The Lead Pastor manages church administrative and organizational functions in a coordinated and orderly manner, adjusting as required and advising the Board of Elders accordingly. The Lead Pastor oversees the publicizing and promotion of church activities on a regular basis.

Example to the flock : Models the Christian life and commitment to Christ, a Christian marriage (if applicable) and family life. Gives strong emphasis to personal discipleship, spiritual formation, and spiritual disciplines. Models a healthy balance of ministry and family life.


PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITY : The Lead Pastor is accountable to the Board of Elders to fulfill the requirements of Lead Pastoral leadership through the requirements of this job description. The Lead Pastor will participate with the Board in a mutually agreed upon pastoral review process annually. The Lead Pastor shall have authority to make certain financial or staffing commitments on behalf of the church, provided they are within prior established budget categories, guidelines or specific projects as has been approved by the Board of Elders from time to time. No authority may be granted to commit to capital expenditures, even though budgeted, without the Board of Elders prior approval. The Lead Pastor’s job description will be reviewed annually. The Lead Pastor may suggest changes to the job description to the Board of Elders at any time.

Waypoint Community Church is a small church in Spokane Valley, Washington, serving a multi-generational congregation. Qualifications for applying: Educational requirements include biblical and theological training at a bachelor’s degree level or higher from an accredited school, or acceptable equivalent. Licensed or ordained by Grace Gospel Fellowship (preferred).
