ABOUT THE POSITION

The Worship Pastor will be primarily responsible for developing and facilitating a dynamic, authentic, inspiring and comprehensive praise and worship music ministry that is consistent with the overall mission and values of the church that engages all age levels. Worship music is not performance driven and the Worship Pastor should not focus on their own journey but be forward-thinking and investing in the future of the worship ministry. This is accomplished by recognizing the giftings and potential in others and skillfully blending them into the worship experience. Duties will include oversight of the church’s media and technology operations.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Through thoughtful strategic planning and coordination with the senior pastor, the Worship Pastor will be responsible for implementing, coordinating and providing the overall direction/leadership of the praise and worship music of the church. This includes the Sunday morning worship service and could include Sunday and Wednesday evenings when needed.
  • In coordination with the senior pastor, plan and design the weekly worship music by choosing songs, liturgical elements and media graphics that support the message being delivered by the senior pastor.
  • Lead an authentic, energetic and engaging worship experience that includes a blend of traditional and modern musical styles suitable for congregational singing, utilizing the praise team and instrumentalist, adult choir and other special groups as needed.
  • Provide coaching and oversight of the recruitment and training of volunteers (vocalists, instrumentalists, and audio/visual team).
  • Conduct effective weekly rehearsals in preparation for Sunday worship services to assure that ministry volunteers (musicians, vocalists, adult choir, media/technology and sound, etc.) are adequately prepared.   
  • Approves music for all weddings as stipulated in the wedding policy.
  • Responsible for purchasing music, materials and supplies as needed for the worship service.
  • Prepares and submits the Music Ministry budget to the Finance Committee.
  • Disciplines his/her schedule so that ample time is allocated for musical program preparation, study, prayer and spiritual growth.
  • Responsible for assuring that all music and video licenses are up to date.
  • Adheres to the information in the Clemmons First Baptist Church Bylaws, Personnel Policies, Wedding and all other church policies.
  • May assist Senior Pastor with weddings and/or funeralsvisitation and some on call responsibility.
  • Assists and coordinates as needed any musical/audio/visual needs of the Senior Pastor, Family Minister and Pre-school Director.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • A personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ striving to grow personally and professionally in that relationship and view music as a ministry of spiritual growth, development and outreach.
  • Prefer 5-9 years church experience being a Worship Pastor, leading a praise band, adult choir and Graduation from an accredited 4 year college or university with degree in music or similar discipline. Seminary or graduate study is desirable.
  • Must have proficiency in vocalizing in a manner that compliments both traditional and modern music; preference for piano and keyboard with ability to lead a congregation while playing (when needed), including the verbal and musical ability to segue between songs and provide musical interludes as appropriate for the uninterrupted flow of worship.
  • Ability to play other instruments such as guitar a plus.
  • Prefer the ability to sight read vocal and instrumental music for piano/keyboard.
  • Experience in the use of technology in worship such as worship software (Planning Center Online and ProPresenter), sound systems, video projections, camera/lighting and live-streaming.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; growth minded and innovative.
  • Must have a strong vocal and charismatic stage presence that promotes audience participation.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member.
  • Must exhibit and have high emotional intelligence to read an audience.
  • Works well under pressure and can manage pressing requests and situations.
  • Must support the 1963 Baptist faith and message of the SBC
  • Must join the church within six months of employment unless extenuating circumstances exist.


GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Oversees and works with the AVIT committee the media and technical aspects of the church’s media/technology program and audio sound system to include producing and editing of videos, live streams; create moving inspirational still and motion graphics for church communication; coordinates updates on all media platforms.
  • Oversees and works with the appropriate people in maintaining the church website and social media presence of the church.
  • Promotes the church and music ministry through the church newsletter, bulletin, audio visual announcements and website and social media.
  • Stays current with changing trends in media, website building and supporting technology.
