TODAY
Good Hope Church is located in rural Spotsylvania near Lake Anna; between Richmond and Washington DC. Our location on Hwy. 208 Courthouse Road puts us on the commuter and retail travel path for thousands of people each weekday. We are at the intersection with Rte. 601 Lewiston Road, which is a major throughfare along the north side of Lake Anna, connecting to thousands of residential homes on and around the lake.
We are located at a nexus of a large and growing number of people from all walks of life, from all backgrounds and faiths, and from all economic and sociographic segments. The Lord calls us to “…receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." [Acts 1:8 ESV] Good Hope Baptist Church is positioned and prepared to serve that call!
YESTERDAY
Good Hope Baptist Church had its beginnings in revival meetings between 1812 and 1819 and in 1819 decided to constitute as a community of faith. A meeting house was constructed where they met until 1860. In 1860 they decided to build a new place to worship, which is the current meeting place today. For 200 years Good Hope has been a place where the sick and injured from the battles of sin come to discover and share the healing balm of Jesus Christ.
Over centuries, Good Hope has survived many challenges and changes. Yet, we do not rest upon the laurels of the past. Instead, we anticipate a future full of God’s promises. We confirm the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 along with the full person, purpose and power of the Holy Spirit. For GHBC, the Holy Spirit has not changed nor ceased. He continues to demonstrate Himself in the lives of His people and points lost people to Jesus through signs, wonders, and miracles.
The community of faith is elder-led and deacon-served. GHBC membership is comprised of professionals and tradesmen, as well as military and civil service personnel. It is a multi-cultural, multi-generational community. The future is bright and primed for growth. God continues to use GHBC for His designed purposes. What that future entails only He knows, but GHBC looks forward with eager expectation.
TOMORROW
The vision that God has laid upon our hearts is comprised of three parts: Leadership, Prayer, and Family. Leadership development – particularly discipleship – within the community is key to eliminating the vacuum that exists within the generational gap. Prayer is the key that God gives us to activate the power that He supplies. Family is where it all begins – particularly with children and youth. Our desire is to reactivate the family unit through sharing Jesus with children that can then share Jesus and through making disciples that then make disciples.
