Associate Pastor - Modern Worship

Palm West Community Church, in Sun City West, Arizona (in the west valley of the Phoenix metro area) is seeking an associate pastor whose primary role is being PWCC’s modern worship director. The church started a modern worship service in the fall of 2022 that is now averaging more than 120 attendees each week. In anticipation of future growth, the service recently moved to Saturday afternoons. The target group is the younger, vibrant retirees in an age group of around 45-65 who are residing in our community and are accustomed to or desire a more modern worship service. Additional job duties and responsibilities would align the successful candidate’s spiritual gifts and the needs and vision of the church.

Reports to: Associate Pastor of Music & Media while working cooperatively with the Senior Pastor.

Work Schedule: 40-45 hours Weekly (2 days per week off)

Job Objectives:

1. The Associate Pastor - Modern Worship oversees worship service flow, song selection, musicians, and the overall performance for creating a well-organized, leading-edge worship experience that connects with our target audience.
2. Collaborates and works cooperatively with other ministries across the church as the worship service will take place in a multi-usage building.
3. Responsible for providing support to the senior pastor in worship and may lead or support one or more specific programs of the church ministry (pastoral care, education, evangelism).

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Reports to the Associate Pastor of Music and Media, while leading the organization and planning of the modern worship service.
2. Recruits necessary musicians and singers for a quality worship experience and trains and maintains a cohesive worship team. On-site worship practice is expected, and 3-5 hours on a Saturday for preparation, the worship service, and storing equipment and securing the building.
3. Consults with Senior Pastor as needed.
4. Works with staff and volunteers to ensure that AV are functional and enhance the worship service.
5. Submits a budget each year with items needed to sustain and improve the worship service.
6. Promptly responds to church and job-related emails, text messages, and phone calls.
7. Understands the unique environment of ministering in a retirement community.

Expectations:

1. Models the pursuit of godliness and seeks to motivate others to do likewise.
2. Candidate shall provide a written “Theology of Worship” statement outlining personal understanding/convictions pertaining to worship.
3. Is teachable and displays humility.
4. Practices good and transparent communication.
5. Develops relationships with unbelievers to be personally effective in pursuing the Great Commission and helping the church to do the same.
6. PWCC membership (regular or associate) following appropriate time frame.
7. Agrees to an annual evaluation and is willing to address and if necessary, make changes according to the recommendations based on that evaluation.

Competencies:

a. Displays an adequate level of quality in musical abilities such as reading music, performing with a strong lead singing voice; plays guitar or keyboard, and seeks to always improve.

b. Demonstrates comfort as a servant leader in building and leading a team of musicians that inspire and

move the congregation in worship.

c. Possesses some skill and experience in audio/visual and lighting. Should be proficient in modern technology such as Ableton Live, ProPresenter or other equivalent technologies.

d. Coordinates song media preparation with Media Technologist.

e. Demonstrates proficiency with music software, backing tracks, writing lead sheets, and vocal harmonies.

f. Should have some Pastoral experience and ideally be ordained in ministry.

Salary/Benefits:

1. Base Salary Range: $5000 to $6000 monthly.
