Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is hiring a Disability Minister. In partnership with the pastor who oversees family life, this position is responsible for developing and implementing programs for families within the Church and working with the community to help build the ministry.


Position Summary:

Job Location: This is an onsite position in Naperville, IL. There is some flexibility to work from home on an as needed basis.

Hours: Full time including Sundays and some evenings and Saturdays.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $55,000-$65,000 annually based on education, training, and previous work experience.

Organization Overview:

Good Shepherd Church is focused on serving the spiritual needs of our local community and on leveraging the time, talents and financial resources of people in this area to help others in our community, across the nation and around the world. Good Shepherd has over 20 employees and about 600 active members who attend congregation weekly. They also have over 15 different ministries to connect with members of the church ranging from children, teens, and adults as well as focused ministries such as grief support and mental health awareness. Responsibilities:

·      Develops the vision and strategy for the Disability Ministry in partnership with the pastor who oversees family life.

  • Serves as a thought leader, networking with other churches, schools, and organizations in the community.
  • Promotes the Disability Ministry within the congregation and community and partners with the Communications team to increase awareness via the website and social media pages.
  • Develops on-going ministry opportunities such as a monthly respite program for individuals with disabilities and their families, family support groups, sibling support groups, and other learning opportunities.
  • Transforms congregational awareness of families with disabilities by integrating the Disability Ministry into all ministries of the church.
  • Drives the content for curriculum adaptation for individuals with disabilities, collaborating with ministry staff and volunteers.
  • Serves as a liaison with ministries in creating inclusion and self-contained learning opportunities for Sunday education, worship, and other family ministry events.
  • Recruits and trains volunteers and ministry leaders to serve families and individuals with disabilities.

 

Requirements:

·      Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Religious Studies, or related field and 3+ years of work experience or equivalent combination of work experience and training.

·      Passion to share the Gospel and a commitment to understanding the Mission and Outcomes of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

·      Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with individuals with disabilities and their families

·      Ability to commit to worship and serve with the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

·      Planning, organizing, managing logistics for activities and events
