Job Description

The Connections Pastor at First Mt. Juliet plays a pivotal role in helping people find belonging, purpose, and growth in Christ through the church. Tasked with reaching the unchurched and equipping believers, this pastor leads the church’s efforts in assimilation, discipleship, outreach, and evangelism. By developing clear pathways for guests to become engaged members, overseeing Life Groups, and cultivating a culture of hospitality and spiritual formation, the Connections Pastor ensures every person has an opportunity to grow in faith and serve with their God- given gifts. Through strategic leadership, training, and alignment with the church’s mission, this role is instrumental in building a gospel-centered community that is both spiritually deep and missionally active.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assimilation

  • Design, manage, and implement a clear assimilation process to move guests to regular attenders, and from attenders to fully engaged members serving in ministry.
  • Lead the church’s pathway for membership initiatives (Discover First and Join First).
  • Help new people connect with the Life Groups ministry.
  • Oversee key hospitality and first impression teams (greeters, parking team, welcome team, and ushers).
  • Champion a culture of hospitality, connection, and member care.

Discipleship

  • Provide vision and leadership for all adult discipleship ministries, including Sunday morning Bible study groups (Life Groups), mid-week studies, gender-specific groups (e.g., men’s and women’s studies), and other small group environments.
  • Equip leaders and develop systems that help people grow in spiritual maturity and obedience to Christ.
  • Ensure that all teaching is biblically sound and aligns with Southern Baptist doctrine.
  • Clarify wins and gauge the effectiveness of our spiritual formation processes.
  • Evaluate and measure success for programs, teams, initiatives, content, resources and more. Identify areas of growth and blind spots.

Outreach & Evangelism

  • Lead the development and execution of strategies to reach the unchurched and equip members for personal evangelism.
  • Create and promote opportunities for the church to engage the local community with the gospel through events, service, and outreach.
  • Cultivate an evangelistic culture where sharing Christ is modeled and celebrated.

Leadership Development

  • Recruit, train, and shepherd lay leaders for adult discipleship and connection ministries.
  • Encourage and equip church members to discover their spiritual gifts and use them in service.
  • Develop simple systems to help people get engaged in serving and growing.
  • Bolster our Serve@First initiative to connect, engage, place, and equip attendees and members to serve in various ministry areas.
  • Coordinate, develop, and facilitate training for volunteers and leaders in area of ministry.

Events & Engagement

  • Plan and promote events, retreats, seminars, and gatherings that foster community, spiritual growth, and outreach for our adults.
