About Anchor Baptist Church

Because we desire to be an authentic Biblical expression of the Church, we must practice and proclaim the truth of the Gospel that transforms us, defines us, and compels us to carry out our mission. As believers in Christ, we are called by Him to “take up our cross daily and follow [Jesus].” This is the Gospel story that is uniquely Christian. The Church is God’s chosen vehicle to extend His gracious Good News throughout the centuries. Paul described the Church as the pillar and foundation of Truth (1 Timothy 3:15). Through our worship, and our mission efforts (evangelism and discipleship), the Gospel is perpetuated from one generation to the next, and from Jerusalem [to] all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth.

Anchor is a “traditional worship fellowship.” We realize that the word “traditional” means different things to different people. For us “traditional” is defined by the Scriptures. The Apostle Paul said, So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter (2 Thessalonians 2:15). It is on these God-given traditions that we stand firm. Jesus, however, calls into question man-made tradition. He said, …why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? We embrace our connectedness to the traditions of God passed down through the Church since the beginning, and, recorded in the pages of the Scriptures. As Jesus taught us, we will question any tradition of man, and reject those that stand opposed to God’s Word.

In a day of compromise and capitulation to our corrupt culture, we believe that the Biblical Truth we embrace and embody is the counter-cultural alternative that the Lord desires and our world so desperately needs to see. If that sounds interesting to you, read on. Know that you are welcome at Anchor and we look forward to seeing you soon.
