Job Description

Job Description: The Director of Family and Youth Ministry supports the mission of OSLM by providing leadership through development, oversight and implementation of programs for students in pre-school through high school, and their families. This ministry focuses on creating an atmosphere of discipleship and inclusiveness where all participants can grow in their relationship with God and His Church.


Principal Responsibilities

         

   1) High School Youth Group

  • Provide an environment for Christian spiritual growth and development for youth

with a focus on developing authentic relationships

  • Coordinate and/or lead High School Sunday School
  • Coordinate and/or lead weekly Youth Group meetings for Bible study and fellowship
  • Coordinate and/or lead youth events – (fellowship activities, retreats, etc.)
  • Plan and lead youth fundraising activities (i.e. Oktoberfest Dinner/Soup Supper, Easter Brunch)
  • Plan and lead service opportunities (large and small)
  • Plan and lead National Youth Gathering participation every three years.

   2) 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Youth Ministry

  • Provide an environment for Christian spiritual growth and development for

youth with a focus on developing authentic relationships

  •  Assist with Confirmation (classes, worship service rite, etc.) under the guidance

of the Senior Pastor and Director of Discipleship

  • Coordinate and/or lead weekly Youth Group meetings for Bible study and fellowship
  •  Coordinate, recruit, train, and provide curriculum for Middle School Sunday School teachers
  •  Engage with staff, students, and parents of Our Savior Lutheran School

(i.e. periodically presenting chapel messages, classroom visits)

  •  Plan and lead monthly afterschool Youth Group for Middle School students         

 

3) Elementary and Preschool-Age Ministries

  •  Coordinate, recruit, train, and provide curriculum for Elementary Sunday School
  •  Plan and lead events for children/parents (i.e Easter egg hunt)
  •  Engage with staff, students, and parents of Our Savior Lutheran School

(i.e. periodically presenting chapel messages, classroom visits)

  •  Plan and lead monthly afterschool Youth Group for 4th and 5th grade students
  •  Assist with annual Vacation Bible School under the direction of

the Director of Discipleship

 4) Family Ministry

  •  Provide for the spiritual nurture and encouragement to parents in

their God-given role in faith formation

  •  Equip parents to be spiritual leaders for their children.

 5) General Duties

  •  Establish both short- and long-range goals for Family and Youth Ministry
  •  Ensure that members, students, volunteers, and parents are well informed about activities

relating to them and that they understand their roles and responsibilities

  •  Identify budgetary needs to support the Family and Youth Ministry programs
  •  Ensure that any administrative duties required are executed
  •  Order and maintain all supplies and equipment needed to support programs
  •  Communicate and coordinate all programs and activity needs with staff and facilities
  •  Work with Director of Communications in arranging for continuous publicity and communications

for Family and Youth Ministry activities and special programs

  •  Assess the effectiveness of programs and initiatives to determine where changes are needed
  •  Make regular status update to the Director of Discipleship/Senior Pastor
  •  Attend worship, scheduled meetings and voters’ meetings
  •  Maintain skills through continuing education and attendance at district functions

 

Desired Skills and Abilities:

  • Establishing and Maintaining Authentic Relationships-Develop meaningful relationships with staff,

students, students’ families, and congregation members. 

  • Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work-Planning and leading weekly,

monthly, and annual programs and events.

  • Thinking Creatively-Develop, design, or create new applications, ideas, relationships, systems,

products or artistic contributions which enhance the program.

  • Making Decisions and Solving Problems-Analyze information and evaluate results to

choose the best solution and solve problems.

  • Time Management–Ensure that time on the job is utilized in an efficient and productive manner.
  • Ministry-Demonstrate a passion for ministry and a strong knowledge of the Bible which is lived out in their life.
  • Leading Others-Play an active role in the guidance, training, and supervision of volunteers in

assigned programs with support from Director of Discipleship.
