Youth Director

The Youth Director will lead the student ministry at First Church for all 6 th through 12 th graders. This individual will build a youth ministry that fulfills the mission and purpose of the church while affirming the theology and doctrine of the United Methodist Church. Our goal is to help the students grow in their love and service to God and people as disciples of Jesus Christ.

Accountable to: Supervising Pastor: Pastor Ginger & Staff Parish Relations Committee Chair

Salary - $30,000 a year

Part-time - 25 hours a week, must include Wednesdays and Sundays.

Benefits – Paid Holidays, Flexible Office Hours.

This will be a permanent position after the first 90-day probationary period.

Education/Experience

o Bachelor’s degree or advanced training: education, theology/divinity, non-profit management, organizational leadership, sociology, counseling

o 5 years in Youth/Student Ministry

o 3 years building and leading volunteer teams

Qualities

o A sense of call and passion for working with youth and an understanding of youth development

o Good organizational, communication, teaching and technology skills

o Knowledgeable and affirming of United Methodist theology, doctrine, and practices

o Enthusiastic & flexible team approach while working with youth, parents & team members

Expectations

o Offer a weekly discipleship gathering for middle & high school students.

o Connect weekly with the Sunday morning Remix leaders

o Attend worship at First Church to promote the ministry and engage with the congregation.

o Lead as a minister/coach to the youth (students) & youth leadership team, attentive to the hopes, concerns and needs of youth who are developing their own gifts as lifelong Christian disciples.

o Develop and oversee fellowship and missional service opportunities for students.

o Develop and monitor the youth’s ministry annual budget.

o Recruit and train quality youth leaders/workers & mentors who help encourage young people to develop their own gifts, strengths, & ideas.

o Initiate and cultivate communication with the student’s parents.

o Lead and teach the annual confirmation class based on our United Methodist theology, doctrine, and traditions.

o Oversee student rehearsals for media and music ministry.

o Implement the church’s child protection policy and procedures.

o Generate new ideas and programs valuing a team concept in ministry with the pastoral staff and leadership team to coordinate all programs in concert with the church’s overall vision.

o Notify the Supervising Pastor prior to any unforeseen absence from regularly scheduled hours, events or duties, and provide a suitable substitute in case of anticipated absence.

o Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings on Wednesdays.

At First Church, our motto is, “We Love First,” based on Jesus’ teaching that loving God, loving each other, and loving our neighbors is our top priority. We don’t do that perfectly, of course.

First Church is a United Methodist Church, founded in January of 1969, when ten people gathered to form Crocker Memorial Methodist Church, the first organized church in the seven-year old city of Coral Springs. They held their first service Easter Sunday of the same year with 20 members. Over the years, First Church has grown significantly, and has become a vital part of the Coral Springs community. In 2019, we celebrated 50 years of ministry.
