The Church of Joy is a vibrant, non-denominational, multi-generational church of about 250 people in Williamson, GA. Our mission is to equip people to live transformed lives through a devotion to God's word, authentic community, a lifestyle of worship and a passion to reach others.
Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and spiritually mature Part-Time Children's Ministry Director who will lead and oversee the spiritual formation of children from 6mos through 5th grade at Church of Joy in Willamson, GA.
With a genuine love for children and families, the Children’s Director will inspire, equip, and challenge our youngest generation to grow as disciples of Jesus while partnering with parents and leading volunteers.
This role includes weekly leadership of Sunday School, Kids Church, and Nursery, as well as Wednesday evening programs, family outreach events, and seasonal events / celebrations.
The Children’s Director reports to the Senior Pastor and elders, serves as part of the church staff team, and is a functioning member of the body at the Church of Joy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership & Vision
- Provide Christ-focused leadership for children’s ministry that aligns with the mission and vision of the Church of Joy.
- Build relationships with families and children, modeling a Christ-centered life and opening your life and home to strengthen ministry relationships.
- Partner with parents to equip them as the primary disciplers of their children.
Program Oversight
- Oversee all weekly children’s ministry programs:
- Sunday School (9:45–10:30 AM) Sunday Morning Kids Church & Nursery (10:45 AM–12:15 PM) Wednesday Night Kids Church & Nursery (6:30–7:30 PM)
- Regularly teach during Sunday and Wednesday children’s services, while also equipping and developing a team of leaders who will share in teaching duties.
- Plan for, select, and implement age-appropriate curriculum for Sunday and Wednesday programs, ensuring lessons are biblically sound, engaging, and consistent with the church’s mission. Monthly themes include simple decorative elements.
- Plan and implement opportunities for kids to participate in the larger Sunday sanctuary setting with singing and holiday programs.
- Plan and organize family/kids outreach events (Fall Festival, Christmas, Easter) and Vacation Bible School.
- Collaborate with the Youth Ministry for smooth transitions as children move up.
Personal Development
- Maintain a personal, growing relationship with Jesus Christ, prioritizing spiritual disciplines of prayer, Bible study, and a lifestyle of worship.
- Commit to healthy priorities (God first, spouse second, family third, ministry fourth).
- Pursue ongoing growth as a ministry leader by reading, networking with peers, and seeking mentorship.
- Attend an annual or bi-annual children’s ministry training conference, paid for by the church, to strengthen leadership skills, gain fresh ideas, and stay encouraged in ministry.
- Demonstrate a teachable spirit and willingness to receive feedback from pastoral staff and elders.
Volunteer Development
- Recruit, train, and schedule volunteer teams for Sunday and Wednesday programs, nursery, and special events.
- Provide ongoing encouragement and training to volunteers to help them lead effectively.
- Model and teach effective classroom management and child discipleship.
Safety & Administration
- Develop, implement, and work with church staff to enforce safe child policies, including check-in/check-out procedures, Darkness to Light training, and background checks for all volunteers.
- Help create and manage the children’s ministry budget in partnership with the Senior Pastor and elders.
- Maintain records and schedules of volunteer teams, and training.
- Develop and maintain a simple social media strategy to highlight children’s ministry events, celebrate milestones, and keep parents informed and engaged.
- Learn to use our Breeze Church management software for scheduling, check-ins, reminders and group communication via texting and email features.
- Help generate simple graphics, using online tools, such as Canva, for event posters and social media.
- Coordinate use of church space, supplies, and equipment with other ministries as needed.
- Organize and maintain the Kids Ministry resource room for needed supplies.
Staff & Teamwork
- Attend the weekly Joy staff meeting (Tuesdays at 10 AM) and participate in team planning.
- Maintain open communication with the Senior Pastor, elders, deacons, youth minister, staff, volunteers, and families.
- Support overall church vision by participating in church-wide events and worship gatherings. Membership at the Church of Joy will be required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A Personal, growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
- A commitment to study and teach sound Christian doctrine and gifted by God with a passion for raising up Godly children and equipping families.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- A total of 5 years minimum in good standing church membership.
- 2+ years experience working within a children's ministry.
- 2+ years experience in children’s ministry program leadership and development (as director or working closely with director).
- Joyful, energetic, kind, and able to manage a room effectively.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills; able to train others to lead.
- Proficient with basic technology, social media, and communication tools.
- Valid driver’s license required; CPR/First Aid training preferred (we can provide this).
Schedule and Hours
- 20 hours per week minimum
- Sunday minimum: 9am-1:30pm
- Wednesday minimum: 4:30pm-8:00pm
- Tuesdays: 10am staff / planning meeting, along with any in-office prep work
- * Additional time commitments involved with ministry leadership: Additional hours for VBS week (largest outreach), special event prep, and family relationship building.
- Some work from home opportunity for planning / prep, as determined by the senior pastor.

Being a functioning member of the Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12) requires a lifestyle commitment.
While the role of Children’s Director is a paid 20-hour position with specific duties, we ask applicants to prayerfully consider what it means to be part of the Body as a whole and the time investments needed to form relationships, build community, and further the work of the church.
As the leadership at Joy, we respect healthy boundaries and personal time, but please understand that all potential staff are called to serve wholeheartedly for God’s kingdom, and this can take us beyond the scope of our paid hours.
Compensation
- 30k/year for 20 hours per week minimum (part-time, non-exempt, salary).
- Additional hours required during VBS and select special events would qualify as volunteer hours as a committed member and leader at the Church of Joy. Any yearly bonuses are at the discretion of the senior pastor and elder body.
- To support the possible relocation of a candidate, The Church of Joy offers a reimbursement for moving expenses up to $3,000 with provided receipts.
