Assistant Pastor

Sanctify Church

Sanctify Church is a warm and loving, Bible-teaching, independent church located in Orange, California. Founded in 2011 by five families under the leadership of Senior Pastor Jack Grogger, Sanctify Church is an elder-led church committed to the authority and sufficiency of Scripture.

We currently average approximately 150 adults and children in Sunday morning attendance.

Our church holds a high view of Scripture as the inspired ,inerrant, infallible,  and authoritative Word of God. We are committed to expository teaching and encourage our members to search the Scriptures daily to establish God’s truth and authority in our lives.

The principles of hermeneutics held by our church are:

  1. Interpret grammatically and normatively
  2. Interpret contextually
  3. Compare Scripture with Scripture
  4. Apply passage priority

Position Overview

The Assistant Pastor will serve alongside the Senior Pastor and Elders to help oversee and strengthen the ministries of Sanctify Church. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide pastoral oversight, support, and leadership development across the church’s ministries, helping ministry leaders navigate challenges, maintain alignment with the church’s mission, and foster healthy ministry environments.

This individual will serve as a first point of contact for ministry-related needs and concerns, helping address day-to-day ministry issues while bringing larger matters to the Elder Board for guidance and resolution.

A secondary emphasis of this role is teaching and preaching the Word of God through various ministry opportunities within the church. The Assistant Pastor will periodically teach from the pulpit, support other ministries through teaching as needed, and invest in the spiritual growth of the congregation through discipleship and pastoral care.

This role may also include serving as an interim ministry leader during ministry vacancies and assisting in the hiring, evaluation, and development of future ministry leaders.

We are seeking a humble, team-oriented pastor with a shepherd’s heart, strong biblical teaching ability, administrative wisdom, and a desire to help the church grow in spiritual maturity and unity.

Responsibilities

Ministry Oversight & Leadership

  • Provide pastoral oversight and support to the various ministries of Sanctify Church
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for ministry leaders regarding ministry-related needs, concerns, and operational challenges
  • Help identify and resolve ministry issues while collaborating with the Senior Pastor and Elders on larger or more complex matters
  • Encourage alignment and unity among church ministries in support of the mission and vision of Sanctify Church
  • Disciple, mentor, and encourage ministry leaders and volunteers
  • Assist ministries in developing healthy systems, communication, and leadership structures
  • Participate in evaluating ministry effectiveness and helping ministries grow spiritually and organizationally
  • Serve as interim leadership support for ministries during seasons of transition or vacancy as needed
  • Assist in the hiring, evaluation, and onboarding of ministry leaders and staff as needed

Teaching & Preaching the Word

  • Engage in regular and intentional study of Scripture
  • Preach on Sunday mornings as requested by the Senior Pastor
  • Teach in various church ministries, classes, small groups, or fellowship gatherings as needed
  • Support the discipleship and spiritual growth of the church through biblical teaching and pastoral instruction
  • Fill in for ministry leaders or the Senior Pastor during absences or ministry needs

Pastoral Care & Shepherding

  • Provide pastoral care, counseling, discipleship, and spiritual encouragement to church members
  • Build relationships across all age groups and ministries within the church
  • Perform weddings, funerals, hospital visitation, and other pastoral duties as needed
  • Help foster a spiritually healthy and connected church community
  • Support outreach and evangelism efforts within the church and local community

Collaboration with Church Leadership

  • Partner with the Senior Pastor and Elders in planning and leading church-wide ministry
  • Attend and contribute to:
  • Pastoral and staff meetings
  • Annual retreats and leadership gatherings
  • Church-wide events and community-building activities
  • Support the overall mission, doctrine, and direction of Sanctify Church

Desired Qualifications & Experience

  • Clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and an authentic, growing relationship with Him
  • Strong agreement with the doctrinal convictions and philosophy of ministry of Sanctify Church
  • Demonstrated pastoral heart with a desire to shepherd and equip the local church
  • Strong ability to teach and preach the Bible in an expository format
  • Ability to lead, organize, and support multiple ministries simultaneously
  • Ability to develop leaders through discipleship, mentorship, and encouragement
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative leadership environment
  • Confidence to work independently and take initiative in ambiguous situations
  • 5–10+ years of pastoral ministry and/or preaching experience preferred
  • College degree strongly preferred
  • Seminary degree preferred
  • Ordination preferred, but may also be pursued as part of the hiring process

Role Type & Compensation

  • Role Type: Part-Time
  • Compensation: $35,000–$45,000 annually, commensurate with experience

Full-time compensation range may also be considered depending on role structure and availability.
