An Invitation to Ministry

Middle school is one of the most formative seasons in a student's life. Students are asking important questions about who they are, what they believe, where they belong, and what it means to follow Jesus in a rapidly changing culture.

At Christ Community Church, we believe these years are an incredible opportunity for the gospel.

We are looking for a full time Pastor of Middle School Ministry (MSM) who loves Jesus, loves students, and is excited about building a ministry where middle schoolers are known, challenged, discipled, and invited into a lifelong relationship with Christ.

This is more than maintaining a ministry program. We are looking for a pastor and leader who will dream about what Middle School Ministry can become, develop leaders who invest deeply in students, partner with parents, and help shape the next generation of Christ Community Church.

Purpose of the Position

The Pastor of Middle School Ministry provides the overall leadership, vision, and pastoral direction for our ministry to middle school students.

The goal of MSM is to create an engaging, relational, and biblically grounded ministry where students can encounter Jesus, grow in their faith, build meaningful relationships, and become fully committed followers of Jesus Christ.

The MSM Pastor will teach God's Word, lead weekly gatherings, develop and equip adult and student leaders, oversee events and trips, provide pastoral care to students and families, and continually envision how the ministry can more effectively reach and disciple middle school students.

• Lead a thriving Middle School Ministry. Create environments where students are excited to belong, encounter Jesus, build meaningful friendships, and grow in their faith.
• Teach God's Word. Communicate biblical truth in ways that are engaging, relevant, and understandable to middle school students while helping them develop a biblical worldview for the real issues they face.
• Build an incredible team of leaders. Recruit, develop, equip, and pastor adult and student leaders who intentionally invest in the lives of middle school students.
• Create unforgettable ministry experiences. Lead weekly programs, camps, retreats, mission opportunities, special events, and other experiences that deepen relationships and create opportunities for spiritual transformation.
• Invest personally in students. Be present in their lives, build relationships, celebrate what God is doing in them, and walk alongside them through the challenges of the middle school years.
• Partner with parents and families. Encourage and equip parents as the primary spiritual influence in their students' lives and provide pastoral care to students and families when needs arise.
• Dream about what's next. Bring vision, creativity, and initiative to MSM. Evaluate what we are doing, identify opportunities for growth, and develop concrete strategies for where God may be leading the ministry next.
• Be part of a collaborative ministry team. Build strong relationships with our church staff and work alongside our Children's and High School ministries to create a cohesive discipleship pathway for the next generation.

Who We're Looking For...

We are looking for someone who:

• Has a growing and vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ and a clear calling to pastoral ministry.
• Genuinely loves middle school students and enjoys being part of their world.
• Is passionate about seeing students come to know Jesus and grow as His disciples.
• Loves teaching Scripture and can communicate biblical truth in a compelling and age-appropriate way.
• Is a relational leader who can recruit, inspire, develop, and equip others for ministry.
• Values parents and sees student ministry as a partnership with families.
• Is a servant-leader who takes ministry seriously without taking themselves too seriously.
• Brings creativity, initiative, organization, and follow-through.
• Enjoys being part of a team and investing in relationships with fellow staff members.
• Can both lead an established ministry and envision what it could become.

Experience

Three or more years of experience serving in youth or student ministry is preferred. Experience leading volunteers, teaching students, planning ministry programs and events, and providing pastoral care is especially valuable.

More important than simply meeting an experience requirement, we are looking for someone with demonstrated ministry leadership, spiritual maturity, and a clear sense of calling to disciple the next generation.

Education

An undergraduate degree in Biblical Studies, Theology, Youth Ministry, or a related field is preferred.

Christ Community was formed in a Carmichael garage in 1961, and in 1962 formally organized as a Reformed Church in America (RCA) congregation. Christ Community’s mission - then and now - has been to make fully committed followers of Jesus Christ. We exist to be the presence of Christ in Carmichael and beyond. We have always had an eye not only on the already gathered, but on welcoming and blessing the not yet gathered. As a multi-generational church, we say we are one church with two worship styles!

After outgrowing the original Winding Way campus, Christ Community moved to its current Manzanita Avenue campus in 1980; it was significantly expanded in 2008. In 2022 Christ Community joined the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Today, we are led by our Senior Pastor Ryan Balbi who spent 15 years in youth ministry and has a deep passion to raise up disciples of Jesus.
