College Pastor, Associate Pastor

Compass Church is a mission minded church that strives to fulfill the mission “to make

disciples of all nations.” Compass Church is located at San Diego State University, as

the hub for future church plants, missionaries, and individual disciples sent into a world

that desperately needs Jesus (Acts 1:8). Our Associate Pastor and/or College Director

will need to share this vision.

This person will need to be a servant-leader who has experience in teaching and has a passion

to engage and equip people, especially college students and young adults who are starting their careers.

This person will need to align college outreach into the overall goals and

strategy of the church.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will need to be a strong communicator, and have a heart for

evangelism, discipleship, and leadership multiplication.

Qualifications:

• Born again Christian, baptized, Compass member
• Track record of living a Christian lifestyle of integrity - include 2 personal

references

• Minimum of 2 years in student ministry, young adults, or equivalent ministry
• College / University Degree (Seminary training encouraged)
• Possesses a theological framework that aligns with the 2000 Baptist Faith &

Message

• Consistently lives out the Compass Values & Heart Attitudes (see here: https://compasschurchsd.com/whoweare)
• Become a Compass Church member
• Supports the vision and mission of Compass Church

Core Responsibilities:

• Maintain a healthy personal relationship with Jesus (Word, prayer, fellowship, evangelism, rest)
• If married, prioritize serving your spouse and pursuing unity together
• Recruit and train a team of leaders and volunteers
• Organize events & outreaches
• Oversee national and global efforts in partnership with our missions teams (logistics for sending teams)
• Integrate the college and young adult ministry into all phases of church life
• Provide pastoral care and spiritual direction to others
• Participate in the overall church ministry and other assignments given by the staff and elders
• There will be opportunities to supplement the preaching team and deliver messages 8-10 times a year

• Personal Ministry & Growth - serving & sharing gospel truths with those in your everyday life (neighbors), as well in ministry contexts (university campus)

• Leadership - Provide leadership to those in your sphere of influence and remain teachable.
• Strive for excellence and balance in tasks and relationships (timeliness, communication, life/work). We don’t expect perfection, but we do expect communication.
• A capacity to lead a ministry that is both deep and wide.
• Active in relational and discovery evangelism
