Job Description

Our church is looking for an individual to take leadership of both our student and worship ministries. This is a full-time position that comes with insurance, vacation time, sick leave, and comp time.

Our ideal candidate should be a man who is committed to the authority and proclamation of God’s Word, who is able to lead and disciple others in their commitment to the Lord. The position requires the ability to handle two areas of ministry, giving approximately 60% of the allotted time to youth ministry and 40% to worship/music ministry. This will mean our candidate must be able to recruit help and delegate responsibilities effectively. We prefer someone who is married, with formal ministry training, and relevant experience in both youth and music ministry. We want to add a third ordained pastoral staff member, so if the candidate is not yet ordained, we hope to do so in the future. Therefore, we are looking for someone who can fulfill the pastor/elder requirements of 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.

As it pertains to youth ministry, our ideal candidate should be able to build and maintain relationships with the students and develop both teen and adult leaders. We desire someone who can make connections in the community and in the schools, who has a passion for outreach, and who will build relationships with the other youth pastors in town. The candidate should be able to maintain an active and spiritually focused youth ministry. Our student ministries currently use Word of Life curriculum, which has proven to be a valuable asset.

As it pertains to the music ministry, our ideal candidate should have a strong stage presence, the ability to sing well (the ability to lead on an instrument is not necessary, but would be helpful), be able to lead in energetic, vibrant, and theologically sound worship on Sunday mornings, continue building and equipping our praise team, and work alongside volunteer choir leaders to provide that ministry opportunity for vocalists in the church who are not in the praise team. The ideal candidate should also be able to oversee and manage music, sound, and media ministries, including scheduling and training as needed, even if he is not directly involved in weekly operations.

Our candidate must be faithful, teachable, a team player, and willing not only to work in the church, but to embrace the church as a family and community.

About the Heritage Baptist Church

Heritage was founded on September 17, 1986 with 64 charter members. The original decision to start the church was made by six couples praying about the possibility of starting a new church in Prattville. The first meetings were held in the community room of the Citizen’s Bank and later the church’s first home was acquired through a purchase of the old Wesleyan Church property on Highway 31.

Heritage, in its’ infancy, needed a name, of course. Ideas were thrown about but “Heritage” seemed to ring true among this group of believers. “For you have heard my vows, O God; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.” Psalm 61:5

The church relocated to its present property at 1357 S. Memorial Drive in 1992 after land was purchased and a new facility constructed. Heritage has had two subsequent building programs with a Family Life Center added in 1999 and a second floor addition completed in 2007.

The mission’s outreach of the church has grown dramatically since the first missionaries were supported in 1987. Today, over 60 missionaries and missionary projects are supported with over $300,000 given annually. A large percentage of the church family has participated in international missions trips. Exciting programs like Project Perissos, Operation Christmas Child and the annual missions conference keep the church family enthused about missions.

Due to the church’s close proximity to Maxwell Air Force Base, the church has always maintained a strong military outreach. Over 600 people (military and dependents) have passed through Heritage over the past two decades while they have worked at or attended one of the schools at Maxwell/Gunter AFB. Heritage has always strived to be a place where military families would feel at home, be treated like family, be encouraged, have opportunities to serve no matter how long they might be staying.

Though Heritage has enjoyed a remarkable history, the church family believes that its’ greatest days are ahead. We both “celebrate our past and embrace our future”.
