Minister of Children

Reynoldsburg Community Church

Reynoldsburg Community Church is seeking a relational, creative, and spiritually grounded Minister of Children to help build a safe, joyful, and engaging ministry where children are known, loved, and invited to follow Jesus. This is an opportunity to shape the faith of the next generation while serving alongside a collaborative church staff, committed servant leaders, and a congregation that values children and families.

Position Summary

The Minister of Children provides spiritual, strategic, and administrative leadership for children from birth through 5th grade while partnering with their families to strengthen faith at home. This full-time role creates safe, welcoming, Christ-centered environments where children feel seen and loved while they learn about Jesus, grow in faith, build meaningful relationships, and experience the love of God through worship, teaching, service, and community.

The Minister of Children works closely with the Minister of Next Generations to develop a healthy, growing ministry that helps students take meaningful steps toward becoming lifelong followers of Jesus.

Reporting Relationships

·        Reports to the Minister of Next Generations.

·        Supervises the Children’s Discipleship Coordinator, childcare staff, and servant leaders.

·        Collaborates with church staff, parents, ministry teams, and the congregation to support RCC’s mission and vision.

Ministry Purpose

The Minister of Children leads Pathway Kids, Kid’s Club, and related ministry programs in alignment with RCC’s mission: to love God and people, multiply the faith, and change the world. This role is a calling to create meaningful spaces where children are excited to come to church, parents feel supported, servant leaders are equipped, and the congregation invests in the spiritual formation of the next generation.

Essential Responsibilities

Spiritual Leadership and Discipleship

·        Create opportunities for children to know and love Jesus through age-appropriate worship, teaching, prayer, scripture, service, and community.

·        Prepare and oversee weekly large-group and small-group lessons that are biblically faithful, engaging, and aligned with RCC’s mission.

·        Create, plan, and execute meaningful family events that connect and equip them to grow in their faith together.

·        Cultivate a welcoming ministry culture that supports families, encourages spiritual growth, and communicates the purpose of Children’s Ministry clearly.

Program Development and Administration

·        Work collaboratively with the Next Gen Minister to create a cohesive ministry strategy for children from birth through 5th grade.

·        Live out curriculum that reflects RCC’s mission, values, and ministry priorities.

·        Create special events, including holiday experiences, and plan and implement Vacation Bible School annually.

·        Maintain accurate attendance records and use ministry data for planning, care, and follow-up.

·        Collaborate with the Next Gen Minister to create cohesive and unified programming, and experiences for the next generation and families.

Safety, Policies, and Compliance

·        Maintain Safe Sanctuary policies that reflect best practices and protect children in RCC’s care.

·        Ensure appropriate screening, training, supervision, and accountability for staff, childcare providers, and servant leaders.

·        Administer personnel policies according to the church handbook and implement direction from church leadership Next Gen Minister, and the Church Board.

Leadership, Supervision, and Volunteer Development

·        Recruit, equip, schedule, encourage, and retain servant leaders for Children’s Ministry environments and events.

·        Supervise and coach the Children’s Discipleship Coordinator, childcare staff, and servant leaders through clear communication, feedback, and care.

·        Foster healthy teamwork, clear expectations, encouragement, excellence, and accountability.


Communication, Parent Partnership, and Congregational Engagement

·        Oversee parent communication so information is timely, accurate, professional, and helpful.

·        Cultivate relationships among children, parents, staff, servant leaders, and the congregation.

·        Partner with parents and caregivers to support children’s faith formation at church and at home.

Budget and Stewardship

·        Develop, manage, and steward the Children’s Ministry budget with the Director of Next Generations and church leadership.

·        Monitor spending, track expenses, and ensure cost-control measures are achieved.

Key Performance Expectations

·        Curriculum is effectively administered and reflects the mission of RCC.

·        Communications are professional, accurate, timely, and aligned with RCC’s values.

·        Staff, childcare providers, and servant leaders are monitored, coached, and developed for improved ministry effectiveness.

·        Children’s Ministry purpose and mission are communicated clearly to children, parents, servant leaders, staff, the congregation, and community audiences.

·        Budgets, cost-control measures, and Church Board directives are met in a timely and effective manner.

·        Attends weekly Next Generation collaboration meetings.

Qualifications

·        Loves God with all heart, soul, and mind and has a passion for leading children and families to Jesus.

·        Continually prioritizes and cultivates a personal relation with Jesus Christ.

·        Degree in Childhood Development, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Christian ministry, or a related field preferred.

·        Three to five years of experience in a similar ministry, church, educational, or child-focused leadership environment preferred.

·        Knowledge of childhood program development, faith formation, classroom management, volunteer development, and administration in a Christian environment.

·        Excellent written and oral communication skills; able to manage staff, servant leaders, ministry systems, and budgets.

·        Mature, relational, and sensitive with parents, children, servant leaders, childcare providers, staff, and the congregation.

·        Able to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative church staff.

·        Able to plan and implement programs, policies, and special events; follow direction from church leadership; and work collaboratively as part of a ministry team.

·        Contemporary computer skills and CPR certification required, or ability to obtain CPR certification within an agreed-upon time.
