Director of Children's Ministry

The purpose of the Director of Children’s Ministries at MSUMC is to oversee the Education Ministries for children from birth through 5th grade. The expectation is that ministry will be relational, innovative, and include a wider ministry to parents. 

Responsibilities

• Build nurturing relationships with children and families, accompanying children on their faith journey and supporting parents and caregivers as they nurture faith at home.
• Plan and coordinate opportunities for children to grow in faith, serve others, build relationships, and experience joy, including Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, seasonal programs, and mission opportunities.
• Develop and lead opportunities throughout the year (including summer) that keep children and families connected through fellowship, service, faith formation, and fun.
• Assure there is a regular presence at Meridian Soccer games and activities, building relationships with children and families. Engage church members in attending games, supporting children, and developing relationships with participating families.
• Encourage and equip members of the congregation to know, support, and participate in the lives and faith formation of MSUMC children.
• Build relationships with children and families participating in Children’s Day In Program and other community ministries and seek opportunities to strengthen their connection with the broader MSUMC community.
• Work closely with the Director of Youth Ministries to provide continuity between children’s and youth ministries and collaborate on shared opportunities for children, youth, and families.

Additional Responsibilities

• Recruit, equip, and support volunteers and lay leaders for children’s ministry 
• Collaborate with the Children and Youth Ministry Team to develop creative approaches to ministry.
• Work with the Engagement Coordinator to communicate ministry opportunities and share stories of children and families.
• Prepare, submit, and administer budgets and annual goals for the church fiscal year in consultation with appropriate ministry teams, ministerial staff and Committee on Finance, and submit to the Church Council. 
• Ensure compliance with MSUMC’s Safe Sanctuary policies.
• Participate in staff meetings and church-wide planning as appropriate.
• Meet established metrics of engagement with families and children who are currently engaged in the ministries today and those we can target to grow in these ministries in the future.
• Perform annual assessment of the children’s programs.  
• Perform other ministry-related responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

Work Requirements:

• Willingness to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the church’s children and family ministries. Regular work hours will include Sundays, as well as occasional evenings and weekends for programs, meetings, special events, and other ministry responsibilities. The specific weekly schedule may vary and will be established in consultation with and subject to the approval of the Senior Pastor.
• Continuing employment is subject to satisfactory job performance as determined by the head pastor in conjunction with the Staff Parish Relations Committee and continued funding.
• Willingness to submit to a background check and/or drug screen (if requested)
• Terms of employment are subject to the employee handbook and senior pastor
• This position of employment is “at will.” As such it may be ended by either party, at any time, for any reason or for no stated reason.
