Lead children and families in faith, learning, and connection. First Baptist Church Americus is seeking a Christ-centered, experienced, and collaborative Director of Preschool and Children’s Ministry to lead its weekday preschool and ministry for children from birth through fifth grade. This full-time, salaried, exempt role combines preschool administration, discipleship, team development, family partnership, and oversight of safe, nurturing ministry environments.

About the Role

The Director leads two connected areas of service: the church’s weekday preschool and its discipleship ministry for children from birth through fifth grade. Reporting to the Associate Pastor of Administration and Missions, the Director advances the church’s vision through effective programs, dependable teams, responsible operations, and safe, nurturing environments developed in partnership with pastors, staff, families, teachers, and volunteers.

Reports to: Associate Pastor of Administration and Missions. The Director provides day-to-day leadership within approved church policies, budgets, staffing processes, and ministry plans. Matters requiring pastoral, personnel, financial, or governing approval are coordinated with the supervising pastor and appropriate church leadership.

What You’ll Do

·       Lead preschool operations: Direct daily operations and long-range planning; oversee enrollment, scheduling, facilities, curriculum, records, licensing, safety, and budget planning; and ensure regulatory compliance and faithful stewardship of resources.

·       Develop staff and volunteers: Coordinate recruitment, screening, onboarding, training, supervision, scheduling, evaluation, and recognition; lead staff meetings; foster a collaborative, mission-driven culture; and work with the Administrative and Ministry Assistant to support accurate payroll and human-resources processes.

·       Direct children’s ministry: Lead Christ-centered Sunday, midweek, seasonal, outreach, and special-event programs for children from birth through fifth grade; select biblically sound, developmentally appropriate curriculum; and coordinate calendars, facilities, registration, communications, supplies, attendance, and budgets.

·       Strengthen discipleship and family partnership: Integrate biblical teaching throughout both ministries; organize chapel services, Bible lessons, and other faith-based activities; equip volunteers; engage parents and caregivers; and connect families with the broader life of the church.

·       Ensure safety, communication, and continuous improvement: Maintain effective child-protection, secure check-in and dismissal, emergency-response, health, and recordkeeping practices; communicate clearly with church leadership, staff, families, and volunteers; and regularly evaluate participation, staffing, curriculum, safety, and ministry outcomes.

What We’re Looking For

·       Demonstrates a clear and growing commitment to Jesus Christ, spiritual maturity, sound biblical understanding, and support for the mission, beliefs, and leadership of First Baptist Church Americus.

·       Meets all current Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning requirements for a Child Care Learning Center Director, including required credentials and training.

·       A bachelor’s degree in education, child development, business, ministry, theology, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent education, ministry training, or substantial leadership experience may be considered, provided the candidate meets all applicable Georgia requirements for a Child Care Learning Center Director.

·       Demonstrated experience leading a preschool or early childhood program and developing or directing ministry or educational programs for preschool and elementary-age children.

·       Proven ability to supervise staff, build volunteer teams, partner with families, manage budgets and schedules, and select and communicate biblically sound, developmentally appropriate curriculum.

·       Working knowledge of Georgia child-care licensing requirements, health and safety standards, child-protection practices, mandated reporting, emergency preparedness, recordkeeping, and secure check-in and dismissal procedures.

·       Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and conflict-resolution skills; current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain and maintain certification upon employment; and successful completion of all required background checks, reference checks, and child-safety screening.

Position Details

This is a full-time role with regular evening and weekend responsibilities and occasional approved travel.

Salary: $47,000–$50,000 annually, based on education and experience.
