Job Description

Founded in 1806, First Baptist Church of Blue Hill is an American Baptist Church located in Blue Hill, Maine. We currently have more than 75 members and prior to COVID-19, averaged between 45 and 50 attendees for Sunday morning worship. We also have a Women’s Bible Study each Monday afternoon and a Prayer Meeting each Thursday evening.

First Baptist Church of Blue Hill is a board/committee-led congregation that is known for expository preaching and strong global missions involvement. We believe the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired word of God, the source and rule of faith and practice. They are fully inspired by God and therefore serve as the authoritative guide for Christian enlightenment, life and ministry. First Baptist Church of Blue Hill believes in the importance of equipping the next generation to live Christ-transformed lives in a rapidly changing culture.

We are seeking an ordained American Baptist pastor who preaches from the Bible, leads us in understanding and applying God’s word, will join us in doing God’s work in our community and enjoys working with all ages. The pastor will be both a leader of the church community and a follower of the gospel.

The pastor’s main job is to minister to our church community through the use of sermons, worship and music. The pastor must plan weekly sermons that capture the essence of biblical vision. In addition to the Sunday service, the pastor will officiate weddings, baby dedication ceremonies and funerals. Most importantly, the pastor will perform baptisms, a cornerstone of the church’s beliefs. The pastor is expected to adhere to biblical teachings in both his personal life and professional ministries. Outside of the church, the pastor serves as the church’s representative and represents the church at civic functions.

The pastor, along with the Deacons, ensure that the church is adhering to the constitution of First Baptist Church of Blue Hill and the precepts of the Bible. The pastor is to assist in all areas of the congregation’s ministry in cooperation with the Board of Deacons as well as other appropriate boards and committees. The pastor may lead small groups and classes focusing on salvation, baptism, church membership and marriage as needed by the congregation. The pastor will visit nursing homes and hospitals to minister to church members and is expected to be available to members during times of grief.
