Evergreen is a congregation with a long history and rich cultural roots. From our humble beginnings in 1925 by the Los Angeles Baptist City Mission Society to reach Japanese immigrants in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of East LA, to our current involvement in the broader Asian American faith community, our church has experienced over 90 years of God’s faithfulness.
We believe God has called our church to be a Home for the New Humanity (Eph. 2). We understand the words of the Apostle Paul to describe a loving family of God in the midst of a divided world. This value directs how we want to live our lives – within our community of faith and in the world around us. Recently, our value of being family has helped to guide our journey of LGBTQ+ inclusion.
