Youth Pastor

Position:

Norwood United Methodist Church is prayerfully seeking a Part-Time Youth Pastor for 20 hours/wk at $20,000 per year. If interested, please text or call Pastor Brendan at 267.210.5232.

Context:

Norwood United Methodist Church is in Norwood, PA, a Delaware County suburb on the outskirts of Philadelphia. Since the pandemic about 40 people have been coming in person on Sundays, and about another 40 watch our services on the internet. The demographics of the congregation is mostly over 60, however, we are connected to a lot of youth through our children, grandchildren, and acquaintances. We recently held a teenage youth event to go to a Phillies game and got a turnout of 14 teenagers! After the baseball game they all came back for pizza and games in the Church’s Social Hall. Everyone in the congregation is extremely supportive of youth events and we even have a few members who are looking to volunteer with youth on a regular basis. The Interboro School District is full of hundreds of young people that do not seem to have very many church-related outlets in the region, and we are looking to be a welcoming church family and start a youth group and Sunday school for them!

Responsibilities

• Outreach - Initiate contacts with youth in the community.

• Youth Group- 4 hours, once a week on a weeknight during the evening- ½ hr for setup, 1.5 hrs for Middle School, 1.5 hrs for High School, ½ hr for tear-down

• Sunday School- Every Sunday from 10 am - 11am

• Youth trips - Plan and lead 2 - 4 per year.

• 2nd Sundays Community Event- Every 2nd Sunday of the month from 5:30-7:30pm to participate in a meal and community event at the church.

• Create curriculum for the youth

Focus

• Our heart is that the kids would come to know Jesus personally

• It is a plus if the Youth Pastor is trauma informed. Must operate under the UMC Safe Sanctuary Policy.

• Willing to work with the Pastor and the Youth themselves to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God’s Mercy, Justice, and Love in the crises and busy-ness of our 21st Century

• It is a plus if the Youth Pastor is creatively inclined and also able to facilitate a worship portion of youth group- whether that be musically or by curating music videos/songs/multimedia

Requirements

• Must be able to pass the necessary clearances and background checks for youth workers in PA

• Must have experience in leading youth to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
