Job Description: Pastor of Children’s Ministry
Reports to: Sr. Pastor, Pastor of Family Ministries
Status: Full-Time, Salaried
Works Closely With: Student Ministry, Women Ministry, Outreach & Global Missions and Communications.

Position Overview: To lead, shepherd, and develop a thriving ministry that introduces children (birth–5th grade) to Jesus Christ and partners with families in nurturing lifelong faith. Responsible for the leadership of vision, programming, events, staff and volunteers for nursery, preschool and elementary children and their families.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Vision
· Develop and communicate a clear, biblical vision for children’s ministry that aligns with the overall mission and vision of the church.
· Foster an environment where children experience the love of Christ, understand the gospel, and grow in their faith.
· Create ministry programs that reach children in the community and support families in spiritual formation.
· Inspire leaders and volunteers to see children’s ministry as a vital part of the church’s mission.
· Embrace innovative ideas, modern tools and creative approaches to reach our families/children where they are, while staying true to our Biblical foundation.
2. Leadership
· Provide spiritual and strategic leadership to all aspects of children’s ministry programming (e.g., Sunday morning, midweek, summer events, and outreach).
· Develop strong relationships with parents in the ministry.
· Recruit, train, and mentor team leaders who oversee age-specific areas (nursery, preschool, elementary, etc.).
· Oversee curriculum selection and implementation to ensure teaching is biblical, engaging, and age-appropriate.
· Develop an annual ministry plan and budget that supports long-term goals and ministry health.
· Maintain safety and security standards, including background checks, check-in systems, and emergency procedures.
3. Volunteer Engagement
· Recruit, equip, and encourage volunteers to serve effectively and joyfully.
· Engage and collaborate with other ministries (i.e. “senior adults”) to expand volunteer base.
· Provide regular training, appreciation events, and discipleship opportunities for volunteers.
· Build a culture of teamwork, spiritual growth, and excellence among ministry workers.
· Communicate regularly with volunteers to keep them informed, supported, and connected to the vision.
· Create pathways for new volunteers to get involved easily and confidently.
4. Pastoral Responsibilities
· Shepherd children and families through teaching, prayer, and presence at church events.
· Partner with parents by providing resources and encouragement for spiritual growth at home.
· Offer pastoral care to families in times of need or transition.
· Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and church-wide initiatives.
· Support the overall mission of the church by collaborating with other ministry pastors and departments.
Qualifications
Ø A deep, growing relationship with Jesus Christ; strong biblical knowledge and theological grounding.
Ø Passion for children’s discipleship and family ministry.
Ø Proven leadership and team-building skills.
Ø Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal abilities.
Ø Bachelor’s degree in ministry, education, or related field (Master’s preferred).
Ø Experience leading a children’s ministry in a local church or similar setting.
