JOB DESCRIPTION

DIRECTOR OF CONTEMPORARY MUSIC MINISTRIES

 

Reports to:                Pastor

Effective:                  March 2022

Supervises:               Branch Musicians;

Volunteer teams directly related to Branch worship

Status:                      Part-time, salaried

 

JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Contemporary Music Ministries will provide dynamic leadership and oversight for all activities related to the contemporary music ministry of the church, in concert with the Pastors and Branch Band. Attitude and performance will be in keeping with the mission and ministry of Henning Memorial UMC.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for developing and facilitating engaging and inspirational contemporary worship services (including occasional special services), working with the Pastors. 
  • Meet regularly with the Pastors to ensure a thematic approach to the contemporary worship services, and to coordinate long-range planning for future worship services.
  • Responsible for music selection for weekly and special services.
  • Rehearses the band with regularly scheduled practices and special rehearsals as needed for weekly and major seasonal or special events.
  • Coordinates with Traditional Service Music Director for occasional combined or special worship services.
  • Responsible for recruitment of instrumentalists and singers (both laity and contract) as needed for the Branch worship services.
  • Responsible for physical and technical setup of worship space for contemporary worship settings.
  • In planning and facilitating worship:
  • Develop and facilitate leadership within the Worship Team such that the Director, while maintaining administrative oversight, can delegate certain functions (e.g. on-stage leadership on Sunday mornings, worship rehearsal when necessary, etc.)
  • Recruit lay volunteers for needed teams.
  • Ensure the production and editing of video clips, slides, and other media are prepared for use in the service (in coordination with the AV volunteers).
  • Foster a sense of community and support among the worship team and volunteers. 
  • Be the communication liaison between the various persons and groups responsible for contemporary worship.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Christian music styles.
  • Prefer Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.   

 

  

EVALUATION:

THERE IS A 90 DAY PROBATIONARY PERIOD AT THE INITIATION OF EMPLOYMENT. 

Director of Contemporary Music Ministries is expected to:

·        Submit annual goals.

·        Meet regularly with the Senior Pastor and annually with the Senior Pastor/SPRC to evaluate job performance, growth and quality of the contemporary music program.

 

The job description may be amended at any time at the recommendation of the Senior Pastor with approval of the Staff Parish Relations Committee. All changes will be communicated in writing prior to implementation.
