Education Ministry Director

Education Ministry Director at Chesterbrook United Methodist Church (CUMC), under the supervision of the Senior Pastor, provides a major role in the faith development of the children and youth students, ages kindergarten-grade 12. CUMC is seeking an Education Ministry Director who has a strong desire to nurture the students in their Christian faith through worship, Bible study, prayer, fellowship, service and evangelism and is willing to provide a direction and leadership consistent to the vision of the CUMC.

● Must demonstrate good communication skills both oral and written when communicating with students, parents, volunteers, staff and the congregation

Duties and Responsibilities
● Prepare weekly Sunday service
○ Prepare weekly Sunday message to children and youth based on curriculum
○ Plan and coordinate the lesson plans for each class according to the curriculum decided by the Education Ministry Team (EMT)
○ Being in charge of setting up and closing down worship space and classrooms
● Provide a dynamic environment to grow the Children’s Ministry (ages 2- grade 5) and the Youth Ministry (grade 6-12) with the EMT and teachers
● Seek out and meet with youth, sharing their joys and concerns, and challenge their spiritual growth on Sundays and beyond
● Support and guide the work of the CUMC Youth Student Council
● Develop or identify appropriate curriculum for children’s ministry to help children develop the love of Christ
● Quarterly nurturing and equipping session with teachers
● Work closely together with the EMT to plan and lead/coordinate special events such as family fellowship events, Promotion Sunday, Seasonal/special events, and community outreach events
● Plan and coordinate with the EMT for Vacation Bible School (one week during summer) with focus on reaching out to the community
● Develop and coordinate experiences and opportunities to reach out to children in the community
● Work with administrative staff to schedule, promote, and market children’s ministry opportunities as needed
Expectations
● Part-time position and expected to work an average of 20 hours per week
● Will work on Sundays as well as other times agreed upon with Senior Pastor and SPRC
● Requires flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. It is recognized that the schedule may vary at different times of the year.
● Participation in weekly staff meetings and monthly EMT meetings
● Notify the Senior Pastor and EMT prior to any unforeseen absence from regularly scheduled hours, events or duties and provide a suitable substitute in case of anticipated absence
