General Summary
In pursuit of the mission and vision of Northminster, the Worship Leader/Director of Worship Ministries (WL) designs and leads musical worship experiences which enable people to affirm and respond to God’s self-revelation and develops and empowers worship ministry teams which allow people to use their gifts to glorify God. The WL will work in close coordination with Northminster’s pastors and is supervised by the Lead Pastor.


Essential Job Functions:
- Design and lead Musical Worship Experiences
- Serves as the main WL in services, with vibrant faith and a passion for corporate worship.
- Prioritizes the congregation’s participation in worship services and their growth in the breadth and depth of Christ centered worship practices.
- Selects songs and creates song sets which make appropriate use of both new and treasured songs to form cohesive, worship-facilitating musical conversations with God.
- Integrates corporate musical components with other worship elements—like prayer, Scripture, and offering—so that the whole of a service connects with the sermon and the Bible passage upon which the sermon is based.
- Coordinates and schedules special music (e.g. soloists, instrumentalists, and guest musicians).
- Participates in leading corporate prayer and in providing readings and announcements.
- Develop and Empower Worship Ministry Teams
- Recruits and empowers people to use their musical and worship leading skills and gifts to the glory of God—on campus and in the community.
- Directs musical groups and/or recruits and empowers qualified people to do so.
- Recruits/hires and supervises leaders to direct Choir and HandBells.
- Acquires and supervises paid musicians, as needed.
- Incorporates children and youth into the music and worship ministries of the church.
- Recruits and empowers teams for audio, video and lighting needs.
- Serves in support of church-wide ministries.
- Provides and/or supplies music leadership for special services, like weddings and funerals.
- Partners across departments, especially through providing musical and AVL support.
- Prays for and celebrates the fruitfulness of all Northminster’s ministries.
- Conducts administrative functions.
- Develops and maintains an annual budget for the Worship & Music Ministry Department.
- Oversees the procurement and maintenance of music, audio, visual and lighting
- Arranges for substitute musicians when necessary.
- Supervises and conducts annual evaluations of paid music personnel.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Be a committed follower of Jesus Christ, demonstrating spiritual maturity, a deep and prayerful dependence upon God and a heart for people knowing Christ.
- Able to articulate and apply a biblically-based, theologically informed understanding of worship and worship practices.
- Have a passion for working with people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
- Possess strong administration, organizational and communication skills with the ability and enthusiasm to recruit and empower people to grow an extensive music ministry.
- Skilled in using vocal and/or instrumental abilities to lead others in worship.
- Display strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster teamwork in a positive atmosphere with both staff and volunteers.
- Display a high level of positive energy, creativity, and the capacity to learn and grow.
- Able to operate and teach others to operate digital soundboards
- Have experience with ProPresenter and Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge and experience of worship leadership in various settings.

Education and Experience:
- A Bachelor-level education in worship leading and/or music is preferred but not required. Additional training in other areas, e.g..: keyboard, bells, productions/AVL and a variety of other musical instruments.
