General Job Description:
The Associate Pastor of Family Ministries is called, first and foremost, to shepherd the flock of First Baptist Church Union. As a shepherd, he will be invited to serve as a fellow pastor, with all of the responsibilities that the office entails.
Family Ministry Philosophy: First Baptist Church operates under a Family-Equipping Ministry model. This means that while we still provide programming for students and children, each of these ministries will champion and support parents as the primary disciple makers in the home. The church assumes the responsibility to equip parents to model and support this for families.
Teaching Responsibilities:
o Recruit, train, and lead volunteers with diverse gifts and personalities.
o Invest and engage relationally with students, children, and their families
o Support parents in effectively fulfilling their Christian parenting roles.
o Be available to provide Biblical counseling with students, children, and their
parents when necessary.
• The Family Pastor will stay current with family ministry practices by:
o Reading relevant resources
o Attending leadership conferences
o Engaging in associational, state, and national networks

Organizational Relationship:
The position of Family Pastor is a full-time position, and performance is subject to periodic evaluation. The Family Pastor will maintain a shareable, monthly activities calendar, reviewable by the Senior Pastor for the purposes of counsel and evaluation. The Family Pastor acknowledges that this job description may be modified in whole or part by FBCU, Personnel Committee, Senior Pastor as deemed necessary. The Family Pastor shall be in all matters directly accountable first to the Senior Pastor. The Family Pastor will have direct contact with church membership and paid staff; he will have initial oversight of the paid staff and volunteer leaders, subject to the authority of the Senior Pastor.
FBC Union is a church of about 300 on Sunday mornings. We are located in a rural community of about 2500 in Newton County, MS. Union is a great town and much of what happens here is built around the school. On a given Wednesday evening, we usually run about 50 in adult Bible study, about 70 in children's ministry (K-6) and about 40 in student ministry. Our VBS attendance annually is about 100+ kids.
We are a blended congregation in worship style. Our pastor is an expository preacher of the Word.
