Family & Discipleship Pastor

Position Vision: The Family & Discipleship Pastor works to make, mature, and multiply followers of Jesus by providing  leadership and oversight in the execution of the vision for all FG Family ministries and discipleship ministries. The purpose of this pastoral role is to oversee the ministries of FG Kids, and to partner with parents in the discipleship and development of their children, while also prioritizing reaching unbelieving parents and families in all walks of life. Additionally, this pastor will provide leadership in the strategy for discipleship in the church. This includes, but is not limited to work in membership and assimilation processes, adult discipleship,  churchwide curriculum, and teaching responsibilities. All job responsibilities will be fulfilled through prayerful dependence on our triune God. 

Qualifications: The Family & Discipleship Pastor will meet and maintain the biblical requirements for an elder/overseer/pastor in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-4. Previous experience on a church staff is not required, but is preferred. Seminary degree is not required, but is preferred. 

Time Commitment: 40 Hours Per Week/Full Time

Compensation: Full Time Pay Commensurate with Experience and Education

Reports To: Senior Pastor

Duties & Responsibilities:

FG Kids Gatherings (35%) - 14 Hours

• Plan, coordinate, oversee, and execute all FG Kids weekly gatherings (Check-In, Life Study Hour, Main Service, Wednesday Nights)
• Schedule and confirm all volunteers for all weekly gatherings
• Alongside pastoral leadership, choose and regularly evaluate that FG Kids curriculum is in alignment with FGBC theology, mission, and values
• Develop and monitor safety and security for FG Kids (I.e., diaper policy, appropriate behavior, photo permission, incident reports, etc.)
• Anticipate growth and necessary adjustments that are needed in FG Kids Ministry
• Follow up with guest families and kids and connect them with the church

FG Kids Special Events & Family Integration (20%) - 8 Hours

• Plan and oversee special events that involve the kids ministry
• Develop and celebrate milestone moments in a child’s and parent’s life to commemorate their discipleship (ex. Parent Commissioning, Graduation Sunday)
• Alongside the pastoral staff, develop an annual FG Kids calendar with strategic emphases and events throughout the year
• Coordinate childcare for church-wide special events as needed
• Work to equip and disciple parents to be the primary disciplers of their children
• Seek effective ways to equip parents with resources and biblical wisdom for parenting
• Integrate FG Kids within the larger discipleship model of FGBC, incorporating kids and equipping them in a way that contributes rather than competes
• Counsel kids and parents as needs arise
• Consider how families, mothers, and fathers might organically be involved in the lives of one another for discipleship-weekly meetings with stay at home moms, providing childcare

FG Kids Leadership Development (15%) - 6 Hours

• Develop an annual ministry plan that coincides with the annual church theme
• Recruit and Develop Volunteers and Sunday Leaders
• Regularly train volunteers through onboarding procedures and written guidelines-Make sure everyone is on the same page & is ready for the training
• Verify background checks on all volunteers that serve
• Lead the Team Leaders of FG Kids
• Discover and Develop the potential of future leaders-make a list of qualities I am looking for in leaders; make sure to have someone who can do your job on a Sunday (Who would that be?)

Discipleship (15%) - 6 Hours

• Help oversee and execute a comprehensive discipleship strategy at FGBC
• Equip members to engage in our discipleship pathway and lead members in their discipleship journey
• Prepare and preach sermons in the Sunday gathering alongside the other preachers at FGBC (~5-10 Sundays per year)
• Work alongside pastoral leadership to teach in various settings—Starting Point class, Midweek gatherings, special events, etc. 
• Alongside pastoral leadership, oversee the assimilation process from first time guest to multiplying member as a part of the comprehensive discipleship strategy of FGBC. 
• Provide pastoral care and oversight to Life Study Leaders and other discipleship leaders in the church
• Work with the senior pastor to create weekly Life Study material and other discipleship resources for the church
• Meet with key leaders to develop and cultivate a culture of discipleship and multiplication in the church

Staff Administration (10%) - 4 Hours

• Attend and engage in weekly staff meetings and weekly gatherings
• Regularly report to the Senior Pastor and leadership about the goals, progress, or needs of FG Kids and discipleship
• Develop an annual budget for FG Kids and operate within the approved budget, and abide by staff finance protocols (receipt reports, etc.)
• Aid in staff-wide initiatives, events, and work as needed

Personal Development (5%) - 2 Hours

• Learn from other ministries to gain ideas, best practices, and godly wisdom-visit different churches and get ideas about how they do things in their church
• Grow in your depth of ministry philosophy and practice by reading books, listening to podcasts, or taking advantage of other resources that are available.
• Attend conferences, engage in intentional study, and receive coaching from ministry mentors
