Job Description

Summary:

Job is responsible for overseeing of and teaching academic courses to Shelterwood students, attending and participating in team meetings and training events, and providing feedback on resident's treatment goals as they manifest in the school setting.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Teaching Academic Courses
  • Prepare and plan lesson activities using a "brain-based" learning approach
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure learning environment
  • Responsible for managing classroom discipline
  • Responsible for reporting any student treatment issues to the student's treatment team (therapist, residential staff, and principal/dean of student services)
  • Implement modifications and accommodations in instruction to meet the individual needs of Shelterwood students
  • Ability to implement Trauma Informed Care (TBRI) techniques in engaging students, and the ability to write and follow up on student assignments as necessary
  • Provide tutoring help as scheduled for students on academic restriction or those asking for assistance
  • Demonstrate required competencies

 

  • Administration
  • Maintain a grade book and lesson plans that can be check by supervisor at any time
  • Turn in grades in for grade checks in a timely manner
  • Responsible for attending weekly teacher's meetings/trainings
  • Responsible for reporting daily behavior data
  • Responsible for timely submission of treatment plan reviews for assigned caseload of students

Work Environment: Classroom environment. Some exposure to noise and crisis situations. Some outdoor activities possibly during temperature or weather extremes may exist.

 

Physical Demands: While performing this job, employee is required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, talk, and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Employee may need to pick up or move items over 50 pounds. Accommodations will be made on a case-by-case basis.

 

Job Hours: Monday-Friday 9a-4:30p. Additional hours may be required as needed by supervisor.

 

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree (preferably in Education or Core Subject Area(s))
  • Certification from Missouri preferred
  • Experience teaching youth

 

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary (biweekly pay structure)

  • Employees have the option to receive pay of an additional $2,080.00 in lieu of benefits.
  • 120 hours of paid time off (PTO) plus paid holidays.
