Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The JKids Pastor develops and implements Journey’s JKids ministry, which serves families with children from birth through 5th grade. This position leads a team of volunteers and paid staff as they create growing wonder and curiosity about Jesus in children through hospitality, care, and learning experiences.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Develop, communicate and implement a vision for JKids that reflects the culture of Journey Church, where all are valued, loved, and welcome at the table
  • Lead part-time staff in developing a hospitality strategy for children and their parents while sharing the high-value Journey Church places on God-given wonder into the JKids experience
  • Develop and lead teams to execute all aspects of kids’ ministry for weekend gatherings
  • Create a culture where children are valued at their stages of development, individual personalities, temperaments, needs, and family experiences
  • Recruit, develop, and train high-quality volunteers to teach, lead and care for children and ensure that these volunteers are pastored and nurtured
  • Provide oversight, pastoral care, and formation for children, as well as communication and support for their families
  • Develop a system of care, compassion, and support for children with special needs and their families
  • Develop (or source) and implement curriculum, creative arts, and communication tools for the weekend classes that reflect the teaching of Journey Church
  • Oversee special event planning, including Christmas, Easter, Trunk or Treat, TAK Pack Days, etc.
  • Manage JKids' budget, including approval of JKids expenditures.
  • Develop and maintain volunteer protocols to ensure security and safety
  • Participate in the pastoral care responsibilities of Journey Church as needed.


WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher
  • Education, training, and experience in areas of children’s ministry, Christian education, child development
  • Familiarity with best practices for special needs populations, inclusion models, accommodations, and appropriate levels of support for kids, families, and volunteers
  • Highly organized and efficient in building systems that work while prioritizing relationships and people while remaining flexible 
  • Comfortable with current technology and communication tools, including social media
  • Agreement with Journey’s Essential Beliefs
  • Ability to relate well to adults and children
  • Desire to engage and work with the entire Journey Staff

OVERSIGHT

This position reports to the Executive Pastor of Ministries

This position directly oversees: JKids Coordinator, JKids Lead Teacher
