I. DEFINITION and PURPOSE
The overarching purpose of the Director for Children’s Ministries is to develop and promote a culture of learning, spiritual formation, outreach and security among the families and children of Hershey Free Church. The Director will equip and oversee a leadership team of paid and volunteer staff. As the primary visionary for Children’s Ministries the Director will be well-informed of changes within the children’s ministries field continually looking for best practices for growth and development. Ministry will be done in collaboration with the Executive Pastor, Director for Spiritual Formation and Family Ministries, and Pastor for Student Ministries. The Director will serve on the Backbone Team and Lead Team.
II. MINISTRY QUALIFICATIONS
A. Give testimony and life witness of … (1) being a committed believer in Jesus Christ, (2) spiritual gifts
relevant to leadership of this ministry, and (3) prior ministry experience with building an effective
equipping community.
B. Have an adequate education and ministry experience that is appropriate to these responsibilities, and
a continuous desire to be learning in order to become a more effective ministry partner.
C. Have a sound knowledge of Scripture and an ability to effectively apply Scriptural principles in all
areas of ministry.
D. Be a stable, mature and growing Christian with an exemplary personal, marital and family life (if
applicable).
E. Be committed to teamwork within the structure of the church.
F. Be in agreement with the doctrinal position of the Evangelical Free Church of Hershey, Pennsylvania.
STAFF TEAM QUALIFICATIONS
A. Will have a passion for relational ministry.
B. Will need to be able to identify, equip and mobilize leaders for ministry.
C. Will need to be able to work in a team environment.
D. Will need to be able to manage and coach a lay staff team.
E. Will need good interpersonal communication skills.
III. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
CHAMPION FOR:
A safe, formative environment that provides an opportunity for all children to grow spiritually, mentally and emotionally and where volunteers are equipped to serve the children and their families of HFC.
IV. ESSENTIAL ROLES
40% - Vision Cast for Growth and Improvement
♦ Be the primary visionary for the effectiveness and growth of Children’s Ministries through regular programming and special events.
♦ Emphasize spiritual formation.
♦ Emphasize and reinforce evangelism and outreach.
♦ Emphasize and reinforce the discipleship strategy.
♦ Select curriculum appropriate for different ages.
♦ Partner with parents by producing family ministry resources and participating in baptism and child dedication
35% - Developing Paid Staff and Lay Leaders
♦ Oversee and equip the paid staff of Children’s Ministries.
♦ Develop and equip the leadership team including coaches, coordinators, lay leaders.
♦ Oversee the Children’s Ministries special needs volunteer staff.
15% - Being on the Team
♦ Member of the HFC Staff Team.
♦ Member of the Backbone Team.
♦ Lead the Children’s Ministries Team.
♦ Member of the Family Ministries Team.
♦ Member of the HCNS Board (may delegate).
5% - Administrative Oversight
♦ Develop and monitor an annual Children’s Ministries budget.
♦ Regularly reinforce safety and security measures.
5% - Other Duties as called upon:
♦ Relational ministry: on-call, hospital visitation, e-mail, letters, articles and in-person availability to the
body and community.
♦ Participation in worship services as needed.

C. Parents are resourced to be the primary spiritual influence in their children’s lives.
D. A healthy and equipped paid staff team for Children’s Ministries.

F. Synergy between the paid and lay Children’s Ministries team members.
G. Effective support for the Backbone Team.
