Worship Pastor
Village Church is a dynamic and healthy church of approximately 750 people. We are located in Dyer, IN, which is a semi-rural community that is now considered a suburb of Chicago. Village Church is 140 years old which has been lived out in three separate stages of location and ministry. Its current ministry period began in February, 2008, with our move from South Holland, IL, to Dyer.
Under the pastoral leadership of Steve Miller, Village Church has defined its two-fold mission to be Helping People Find Their Way Back to God and Bringing Them to Maturity in Christ. This mission statement defines our sense of kingdom purpose that God has given us at Village Church.
Village Church embraces inspiring worship in the cultural context of both traditional and contemporary services. We deeply believe that the worship experience is a key component to the spiritual growth of people who want to enjoy and honor God in the development of their spiritual lives.
The Worship Pastor at Village Church is responsible for overseeing all aspects of our Worship Ministries. While he will regularly plan and lead our contemporary worship services, he will also work with our traditional service worship leaders and oversee all aspects of the technical side of our ministry.
General Expectations for the Worship Pastor
· A committed follower of Christ, growing in his faith, and continually modeling a life of worship in both his private and professional living.
· Committed to a team ministry as he works with the Lead Pastor in planning services, works alongside other staff members in the overall needs of our church, and serves as part of our entire church family in reaching our community with the gospel of Christ.
· A skilled musician, able to lead contemporary worship from a guitar or keyboard.
· Possesses knowledge of significant hymns that are worthy of remaining in the literacy of the church and able to adapt them to contemporary worship.
· Possesses a good understanding of worship presentation programs.
· Has a strong understanding of the technology, programs, instrumentation and breadth of hymnology and artists that are necessary to develop and lead a strong worship ministry.
· A visionary problem solver who can assist our leadership team in planning for our future church growth.
· Possesses a servant’s heart, which may call for fulfilling duties not normally associated with worship as needed and directed by the leadership of Village Church.
· Has a stage presence and personality which draws and inspires those who serve in his ministry team and the congregation at large.
· Holds theological, philosophical, and relational compatibility with Village Church and the Evangelical Free Church of America.
· Agrees with the leadership structure of Village Church as defined in the Constitution and By-Laws of Village Church.
Specific Expectations for the Worship Pastor
· The Worship Director will work under the direct leadership of and is answerable to the Lead Pastor.
· Assist in the maintenance, planning, and purchase of audio/visual equipment for the current and future needs of our worship ministry.
· The Worship Director will fulfill the following weekly, monthly, quarterly, seasonal, and unique responsibilities:
Weekly Responsibilities
• Coordinate weekly music selection with the Lead Pastor for all services
• Attend weekly staff meetings
• Work with our Ministerial Staff to develop and execute our immediate and long-term ministry vision and execution strategy
• Coordinate all worship planning for our traditional and contemporary services
• Prepare lyric and announcement slides for worship services
• Lead or coordinate worship team rehearsals
• Prepare music notebooks
• Coordinate with Tech Team for all tech services
• Prepare platform for worship services
• Assist staff in other undefined areas as needed
Monthly/Quarterly Responsibilities
• The Worship Director will hold 3-4 meetings with the various groups within our worship ministry (singers, musicians, tech) for encouragement, training, and visionary discussions
Special Responsibilities
• Planning holiday services for Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. This will include decorating the auditorium and other rooms as needed.
• Other music or tech issues as needed for special services/events (weddings, funerals, Vacation Bible School, etc.)
General Responsibilities
• Develop, lead and coordinate new worship leaders for worship services
• Recruit new participants (instrumentalists, praise team singers, etc.)
• Design creative worship elements
• Oversee the development of a choir ministry
