Job Overview

 Morning Star Church (MSC) is a Spirit-filled church planted over twenty years ago who honors God through an authentic commitment Jesus Christ. Responsible for managing the business affairs of the church in the areas of finance, budgeting, human resources, insurance, office management, information technology, facilities management, risk management and security. The Executive Director assists the Lead Pastor, Executive Team members and board members with both financial strategic planning and church growth. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Fiduciary responsibility and overall leadership of Morning Star Church (MSC) financial operations.
  • Development and oversight of financial policies and procedures
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee.
  • Prepare annual budget in collaboration with staff and leadership to support our mission, vision, and values, calculate variances, and report significant issues to the Executive and Finance Teams.
  • Review and approve monthly church bank reconciliations.
  •  Appropriately Transfer funds between bank accounts as needed.
  • Review and approve both semi-monthly and bi-weekly payroll prepared by accountant.
  • Provide oversight and direction to the Administrative, Staff Relations, and Finance boards.
  • Manages cash and ensures adequate internal control systems and processes.
  • Assesses MSC’s need for all forms of capital and develops capital structure and acquisition plans.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with financial lenders and negotiates banking arrangements and lines of credit.
  •  Serve as the on-staff lead HR representative, manages the Church’s benefit plans (Medical, LTD, Life, 403b.
  • Oversee administrative functions as well as facilities to ensure efficient and consistent operations.
  • Liaison with IT contractors in maintaining current technology, improvements/upgrades, and robust maintenance of technical infrastructure.
  • Spearheads capital campaigns.
  • Provides oversight and direction to the Finance Team, staff Relations Team, Trustee Board and Facilities Manager in areas of facility maintenance and improvement.

 

 

Competencies:

  • 5+ years of broad senior management experience in a multi-million-dollar organization at the CFO level. Fund accounting and nonprofit management recommended. Candidates must have a college degree.
  • Familiarity with or capacity to learn Excel, Word, Intuit QuickBooks, CCB, Subsplash.
  • Attention to detail, clear and accurate record keeping.
  • Strong leadership, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Excellent people skills, works well with a wide range of people, able to work with and support volunteers.
  • Must be a team player, collaborator, and flexible.
  •  Evidence of a mature life under the lordship of Jesus Christ.
  • Ability to influence and manage others to success, understanding of GAAP and IRS guidelines for a church, understanding proper procedures for accounting department, familiarity with prudent investment guidelines, knowledge of legal aspects of human resources management, familiarity with normal array of benefit plans design and implementation.
  • Able to set goals that are in line with the overall mission of Morning Star Church
  • Unafraid to assume risk, try new things regularly, or to stop great ideas that do not work.
  • Willingness to commit in membership to Morning Star Church
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  •  A growing committed follower of Jesus Christ. (1 Tim 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9)
