Children’s Pastor/Director
PURPOSE: The Children’s Pastor/Director serves the church by developing, coordinating, and administering an effective and comprehensive ministry to children ages birth through fifth grade and their families by providing vision, leadership, supervision, and development of staff members and volunteers involved in the ministry.

Essential Functions:
- Provide vision, direction, leadership, and development opportunities for the children’s ministry assistant and any ministry staff specialists. Aid in the development of educational programs and ministry effectiveness in these areas.
- Supervise and assist volunteer ministry leaders in the enlistment, screening, training, and ministry to specifically defined ministry leaders for three Sunday morning hours of children’s LIFE Groups.
- Enlist, train, and support directors and volunteers responsible for Wednesday night children’s discipleship.
- Coordinate enlistment, screening, and training for all volunteer leaders in children’s ministries.
- Plan and provide leadership for children and leaders for Vacation Bible School once a year.
- Ensure observance of safety, security, discipline, and hygiene standards in all children’s classrooms at all events. Maintain professional awareness and compliance to current trends in these areas to provide an environment of excellence for children.
- Plan major outreach and in-reach events.
- Provide discipleship experiences for elementary children.
- Participate in staff meetings, yearly retreats, and other opportunities for full-time ministerial staff.
- Provide direction and nurture to the entire Children’s Ministry staff, encouraging teamwork and mutual support for children’s ministry and church-wide efforts.
- Provide counseling on an individual basis as able.
- Oversee the care of equipment and spaces related to children’s ministry. Purchase supplies, material, and equipment as authorized.
- Manage budget line for the children’s ministry.
- Coordinate children’s ministry with other ministries of the church.
- Establish ministry goals and objectives by prioritizing related programs, managing the use of facilities, planning an appropriate budget, delegating tasks, and evaluating progress regularly.
- Communicate the vision and goals of the Children’s Ministry as part of the vision and goals of the church.
Education, Skills, Abilities, and Spiritual Gifts:
- Active and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ, evidenced by action, attitude and behavior.
- A passion for children’s ministry and to see families grow in their faith together.
- Bachelor’s degree (ministry-related or master’s degree preferred).
- Previous experience with direction and administration of large church Children’s Ministries or Family Ministries
- Experience in recruiting, motivating, equipping and scheduling volunteer leaders to minister to children and families.
- Experience in designing and developing children’s ministry programs.
- Effective communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal).
- Demonstrated ability to understand and relate to children and their families and a passion to see families grow in their faith together.
- Competency with basic computer software (MS Office, Google), and the capacity to learn new software.
Relationships:
- Reports to the Senior Pastor.
- Supervises and directs Children’s Ministry staff.
- Works closely with all areas of ministries within FBCO.
Job Details:
- 40 hours/week. Sunday through Thursday. Schedule and days flex with mission needs.
- The compensation package includes base salary, healthcare, 403b contributions, and a Ministry Related Expense account (MRE). In addition, eligibility to apply for a cell phone allowance and tuition assistance exists (for cell phone and tuition, specific criteria must be met and is subject to review).
