ABOUT THE CHURCH

Church of the Incarnation, located just north of downtown Dallas, is currently seeking an experienced Director of Communications to join our team! With 5,000 members from around the Dallas-Fort Worth area, we are committed to building Christ’s kingdom by worshipping God in the Great Tradition of the Church, growing in faith, serving the poor, and developing leaders for the renewal of the Church locally and around the world.


POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Communications supervises all aspects of the Church’s internal and external communications. The Director oversees the design and production of communication materials and manages the communications team and freelance employees, including but not limited to photographers, video specialists, and graphic designers. The Director of Communications conducts the Rector’s vision and leadership for the Church and reports directly to the Executive Director of Operations.


PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Adobe Creative Suite: particularly Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator

• Conceptual/conversational knowledge of web languages, such as HTML, XHTML, XML, PHP, CSS, WordPress, etc.

• Resourcefulness - ability to troubleshoot

• Project Management

• In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms

• Advanced oral and written communication skills

• Excellent organizing and planning skills to coordinate multiple simultaneous tasks

• Ability to work independently and with a team

• Ability to deal with conflicting priorities

• Knowledge of AP Style Guidelines


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.

• Multiple years of experience in public relations, including supervisory and comprehensive marketing experience required.

• Experience in event planning and project management

• Experience with corporate social media management

• General CMS experience


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure the highest quality of internal communications with staff and parishioners

• Partner closely with the executive team to identify communication objectives and develop plans for parish-wide campaigns

• Research, develop, and execute complex internal communication programs, including project management (i.e., planning, tracking deliverables and interfacing with technology subject matter experts and creative/production team)

• Partner closely with the executive team to develop, consult, and recommend executive messaging and visual standards for various presentations with internal/external audiences

• Lead weekly meetings with the communication team to manage workflow

• Set and enforce production timelines/deadlines for all creative projects and assets

• Establish, implement, and maintain editorial calendars, guidelines, and best practices to ensure content is up to date

• Maintain the confidentiality of information coming into and being disseminated out of the church and the communications department

• Manage current communication vehicles and identify and test emerging vehicles/technologies to better reach targeted audiences

• Serve as the main contact for all external advertising

• Collaborate with the communication team to ensure they are well motivated, able to maintain creative focus, and energized as much as possible in this fast-paced environment

• Conduct performance evaluations of communication team members following the format and schedule set forth by the leadership team of the church

• Ensure that church marketing across all platforms is up to date, maintaining the highest creative quality and accuracy possible

• Ensure the team conducts research and development of email best practices to ensure deliverability, the highest possible open rates, and the greatest possible display accuracy across multiple browsers on multiple devices, including desktops, notebooks, and mobile devices

• Monitor and report to the executive team all relevant analytics on content performance to measure success and guide refinements in strategy and development

• Monitor relevant online conversations for institutional feedback and create a standard for response time and detail

• Maintain consistent editorial and communications standards, branding, and guidelines

• Help with special events when needed and promote and represent the church in a professional manner

• Help develop and maintain the budget for projects for which the Director is responsible

• Ensure that all stories, ads, and listings are correct; accuracy is paramount

• Communicate with staff, clergy, and parishioners with tact and diplomacy

• Perform other duties as needed


SALARY $96,498.00 - $100,030.00 per year

• 8-hour shift, Monday to Friday
