It officially became a church in 1952 with Reverend Robert Wright as its first pastor. The church moved locations several times, finally settling at 4401 Brooks Street, NE in 1971.
Reverend Wright retired in 1977, succeeded by Reverend Willie Green, who served until 1996 and led significant growth and expansion. Reverend Jonathan Bennett became the third pastor in 1998, transitioning the church to a holistic ministry approach. In 2002, Reverend Jawanza Karriem Colvin became the fourth pastor, ushering in a period of spiritual revival until his departure in 2009.
Reverend Melvin M. Maxwell served as Interim Pastor before being officially appointed as the fifth pastor in 2010, marking the start of a new chapter for the church. On March 30, 2024, after 15 years as Pastor of East Friendship Baptist Church, Pastor Melvin M. Maxwell was suddenly called home to glory.
