Director of Youth Ministry

Supervisor: Senior Pastor

Accountable to: Senior Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC).

Yearly Salary Range: $38,000 - $40,000

Job Summary:

To lead and cultivate the Youth ministry, 6th through 12th grade, at Wesley United Methodist Church through discipleship, prayer, activities, Bible study, informal gatherings, spiritual guidance, parent and congregational involvement and support, youth leadership development, camps, and missional outreach. It is expected that the Youth Director understands that he/she is a Spiritual leader in this United Methodist congregation. Therefore he/she must strive to conduct himself/herself with this awareness, especially when working with the youth.

To direct and develop outreach activities of Wesley through multiple platforms, including website, social media, community events, and personal contact. Will cultivate and direct volunteers to allow for Wesley programming to reach and be accessible to a large local and regional audience.

Specific Position Qualifications and Abilities:

· Prior youth ministry experience required

· Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred (Religion, Ministry, or Human Relations Field preferred)

· Experience in cultivating teachers and volunteers preferred

· Experience in developing and leading missions, locally and abroad, strongly preferred

· Experience in developing and implementing outreach programs preferred

· Must live within the greater Shawnee area or be willing to move into the area after hiring

Spiritual Qualities and Specific Skills Required:

· Easily shared personal testimony built on a growing faith/relationship with Christ

· Strong and evident Christian character built through personal devotion, worship and prayer life

· Ability and desire to minister, mentor, relate and communicate effectively to youth of all ages and to building strong Christian families

· Confident self-starter who prayerfully and biblically seeks God's will in ministry

· Heart for enhancing the spiritual growth of Wesley and its congregation

· Commitment to enhancing and building the mission and vision of Wesley UMC

· Spiritual gift of leadership and ability to function as a positive team member

· Organization and communication (oral and written) skills

· Good stewardship of resources

· Desire and ability to teach and a strong understanding of the Bible
