Principal Functions:
The Student Pastor is responsible for planning and executing a comprehensive disciple making program for students, providing leadership to growing young disciples—grades six through undergraduate studies—while interfacing with adjacent children’s, adult, and senior adult ministry leaders to support a continuum of spiritual development.
Responsibilities:
- Actively assess, plan, and lead evangelism initiatives consistent with making student disciples.
- Actively create opportunities for student Christian education, providing direction, leadership, and teaching of Student Bible study, discipleship training, missions education, Wednesday
programming and other activities.
- Promote a culture of student ministry that helps young believers to assimilate into the larger church body.
- Promote a culture of student ministry that promotes spiritual maturity.
- Organize and coordinate a balanced approach to student ministry that includes Bible study, discipleship training, outreach, recreation, fellowship, mission action, and worship.
- Working with the Discipleship Pastor, enlist and train leadership serving in the Student Ministries.
- Plan and direct all activities such as youth camp, student mission trips, retreats, weekday youth service, youth emphasis Sunday, seminars, banquets, and other special events.
- Support the pastor in visiting hospitals, nursing homes, etc. and, when called upon, assist in counseling, performing weddings, conducting funerals, and preaching.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
Requirements - Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- College degree; some seminary preferred.
- Licensure to the ministry required; ordination preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work with students and their parents
- Demonstrated ability to recruit and lead volunteers.
- Requires the ability to listen effectively and to communicate clearly, both orally and in written form.
- Requires exceptional speaking skills and the ability to speak confidently before groups.
- Requires quality relational and leadership skills.
- Requires a team mentality in working with and relating to colleagues.
- Requires exceptional administrative skills.
- Requires basic ability to use computer software consistent with student leadership.
- Requires commitment to biblical Christian principles and The Baptist Faith and Message 2000 both professionally and personally.
- Requires attendance and punctuality.
- Requires passing criminal, financial and sexual misconduct background checks.
- Requires compliance with applicable federal and state laws as described in the church constitution.
- Requires the ability to financially steward the respective ministry budget.
Working Relationships:
- The Student Pastor reports directly to the Senior Pastor and supervises the Student Ministries Intern &/or Assistant.
Job Classification:
- This position is considered an exempt full-time position.
