Job Description

The ideal candidate for the NextGen Pastor will have a deep love for God and a passion for student ministry. They must be committed to guiding students in their growth in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. The NextGen Pastor should be a servant leader, able to effectively lead both children’s ministry staff and students toward a Christ-centered lifestyle. Additionally, the candidate should be equipped to share the gospel confidently and graciously with individuals of all ages. This role requires someone who fits well with the culture of Grace Church and who represents the ministry with excellence within the Flagstaff community.


Key Qualifications:

  • Ordained minister with educational credentials in ministry or a related field.
  • Proven leadership experience in youth ministry, particularly with middle and high school students.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • A passion for youth discipleship and student ministry growth.
  • Ability to build, train, and lead a team of volunteers.
  • Committed to personal growth through Bible study, prayer, and shepherding.
  • Strong pastoral care skills, with the ability to minister to students and families.


Ministry Responsibilities:

  • Lead, plan, and execute all middle school and high school ministry meetings, fostering a spiritually enriching environment.
  • Provide oversight, guidance, and support to the Children’s Ministry Director and other children’s ministry staff.
  • Work 36-40 hours per week (subject to change depending on ministry needs, including meetings with students and leaders).
  • Ensure effective, focused functioning of all NextGen ministries.
  • Recruit, train, and mobilize a leadership team of adult volunteers for youth ministry.
  • Create and implement strategies for discipleship, equipping students to grow in their faith and leadership roles.
  • Prepare and teach Bible lessons for middle and high school students.
  • Develop and distribute small group materials for small group leaders.
  • Plan, schedule, and communicate all student ministry activities via social media, church communications, and the ministry calendar.
  • Regularly communicate with parents about student ministry events and updates.
  • Plan and execute camps, retreats, and special events for students.
  • Provide pastoral care, including praying with students, parents, and church members during times of crisis or difficulty.
  • Work cooperatively with church staff to support the overall mission and vision of the church.
  • Foster personal spiritual growth and accountability, including maintaining a balanced home and family life.
  • Actively engage in evangelism within the church and the surrounding community.
  • Faithfully contribute to the church through tithes and offerings.
  • Attend staff meetings to collaborate on church-wide initiatives and projects.
  • Participate in weekly worship services and church events.


Reports To:

  • Lead Pastor (Pastor Mark Smith)


Direct Oversight:

  • Director of Children’s Ministry
  • Middle and High School Youth Volunteers


Compensation Package:

  • Full-time position (40 hours per week)
  • Competitive salary, negotiable based on experience and education
